It was a lesson that I learned a long time ago, but I seem to keep forgetting. We always have that one person that we know who is constantly miserable and suffering, yet, even if there is a clear answer right in front of them that will make their lives better, they'd rather suffer. Be it out of attention, masochism, or what have you.
It takes a while to see them, but once you have, it's harder not to get sucked into their misery and taken down.
