I really like coloring this way. So much faster and it looks pretty to me. >__>Just some doodles I did. I was at the library--supposed to be doing research but ended up browsing 'cuz my freakin' partner didn't show up!!!--and saw an X-men comic on the shelf. Found out I really liked the loose, cartoony/comic feel to all of it and tried it out for myself. I think Dante has become my test dummy. She's fun and easy to draw therefore a good guinea pig.
I love drawing lips and hair. Fun fun.
Middle sketch looks like shit, though. IGNORE! IT DOES NOT EXIST!

It's a pretty interesting thing. I feel like I'm getting to understand lighting and shading a little bit more by puting it in dynamic light like this. Plus, it's quick and easy like easy mac. xDDDD

That is such a cute style! And believe me, I've felt inspired my X-men comics on many occasions, but I can never seem to get the hang of such a loose, graphic style.

Psh, just go into it. I mean, sometimes you get frustrated and just start over or simply give up on it, but it feels and looks wrong because it's not your usual stuff. That's good if you feel that way because you're out of your comfort zone, but just keep at it instead of scrapping what you've already done.
Also, I can't tell you how big of a difference comics like that and anime have. They feel somewhat similiar in a way, but they have a somewhat more 'realistic' yet loose feel to it. It's a real challenge, but try to draw those expressions instead of reverting back to the usuall ^_^ or xD kind of expressions. Those are easy, even easier to fall back on, but it helps in the long run if you avoid them.

I think you need to find a good balance. In these sketches there is too little color. I see that you are trying to imply color by framing spaces with color, but there is too much white. Even if the area that is white is a shine, I'd try playing with the materials more. For example, a low thread textile like cotton does not reflect as well as polished glass or leather, and it will therefore be simply a lighter or more saturated form of the actual color, whereas the glass or leather will have an actual shine to it.
Just some suggestions from my end. Really cool artwork though!

Eh, I just wanted to go with base colors. I wasn't looking for texture, but I'll keep that in mind next time.
As for there being too much white, I specifically shaded ONLY shadowed areas. The inbetween and light areas were left white because I liked the harsh shading.
Still thanks for the tips, Simon. But if I may, how would I cause those kind of effects with leather or fabric? I know you touched the subject somewhat, but I'm not entirely sure what you mean....

No, what I mean is the ability of different textures to reflect light (and consequently color.)
Leather has a sheen to it, so it reflects light a small amount. Fabric absorbs most of the light and doesn't reflect it back directly. Leather has a line of white on it that is light reflected back at you, but cotton simply reflects the color.
All you do for cotton and stuff is lighten the color on the areas receiving light, but in leather add a white area at the lightest part.
