Description "A Solid Display"

My first unofficial assignment.

Edit: Many people asked me :"What is it?"

My answer: It's a rock, on a cloth, on a stool, on a wooden flooring, in front of a lead pipe and a wall behind everything else.

This work is sourced from a learning art book published from China and this book displayed many of the still life elements that students in China would draw to improve their skills. I was given this task to gauge my capability in expressing realism drawing.

I humbly state that I have a lot to learn from this experience, and one of the biggest lesson was that I seriously had to work faster. Faster not in a sense that my movements had to be rapid, but rather in time management. Procrastination is probably the word best fit the situation. More often than not, I'd be doing something else rather than focusing my time and effort solely in my work, and thus the great delay in the completion of the work.

I do suppose my journey begins here, from the advance basics of pencil drawing. We will see how far my patience in stretch.

Looks amazing! 2 Months is insane bro. The longest Ive spent on a drawing is maybe a week on/off. Would have been nice to see the progression as you went through with this building it up over the weeks. Drawing is the fundamental of all art and you have displayed a great talent!

Wonderful pencil work, the shading is marvelous. I love how you did the cloth, it's breathtaking. This is a great deviation!

You're very welcome. It loos like the stone might be very light tho? (I don't think I'd be patient enough to do something like this even

I drew the stone out of the interpretation of what I see from the reference picture, whether it should be lighter or darker, I'm not too sure. Also, some parts are already in 8B shades, but somehow I couldn't get it any darker, might have to find out why.

impressive! I struggle to draw the textures of things. I have to say, at first I thought the rock was an animal heart! Its surface looks a little too soft to be rock, I think.

I get what you mean. I got lost and confused by the sophistication while I worked on that part, plus the shading techniques I used on that part wasn't entirely appropriate. I would understand if it didn't looked anything like a rock.

But thanks pointing out nevertheless.

This is awesoooome Great work Could you please tell me what the title of the book is? Please spell it by using English letters I hope I don't cause you a difficulty asking you for this. Thank you very much beforehand!

Darn! I forgot the Chinese Name exactly and I've returned the book to my guru already.

The translation of the title is Communicating with Still Objects(δΈŽι™η‰© ... ... [Yu Jing Wu ... ...] can't remember the last 2 words) or something similar to that. I'm sorry, but I can only help you with this much. :/
