Wow, I hope I can be that confident when I'm her age.

That's quite the interesting technique. Sounds WAY too complicated for me though. You did really good with it though. Very nice. It looks kind of faded, without loosing any of it's cheerfulness. I really like her sunhat in this. It's so cute.

Hopefully my tutorial of it will be up before I head to Portland, so it may be more apparant then.

I'll definitely check out the tutorial... but no guarantees if I'll actually try it out or not. I'm scared of new techniques. Don't know why. Too much effort needed maybe.

Lol, I hadn't thought of it looking like that, it's actually a technique like andy warhol used back when he was a commercial artist.

OHMG I LOVE THIS! You use one of those badass bamboo penthingies?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

nickyflamingo In reply to beefyrae [2006-10-16 04:36:21 +0000 UTC]

Nope, the technique is, you use a crowquill (split-nib metal tip) pen and waterproff ink and draw bit by bit on frosted mylar, then press it against smooth paper before it dries. Then you do the next samml bit and press down until you draw the whole thing. Then, when it's all dry, you paint with watercolors or guache for a whimsical feel. It's an unpredictable technique because you can never control wher ethe blotchy ink will happen, but that's the charm of it.

Glad you like it, I'm going to try it again soon ^_^

Wow... that's confusing. I'd be able to figure it out better by witnessing it irl. XD

But yeah! I think it'd look great with like, pinks, greens and oranges, or like pinks, blues and purples! Can't wait to see more of it! I've always wanted to be able to work with watercolors and runny ink, but I'm very hard on myself when it comes to little details. LOL I might get pissed at myself and think my own blotchiness was shit. XD One day I'll try it though... if I in fact figure it out XD hah.

SLEEPLESS RAMBLINGS! YOU ROOL!

Well, I was trying out a whole new illustration process and the assignment stated the image had to be light and upbeat, so I though a big lady enjoying the summer would be perfect. Plus, the song was stuck in my head ^_^
