Haha, yeah if exposed long enough it's hard to spot the difference because the moons light is nothing but the reflected sunlight anyway.

I'd do a different composition here, but otherwise it's spectacular, the moonlight on the mountain, the town, the sky and all. I can see a Headless Orion :3

Hey, what do you suppose would be a better angle? We tried some different, but for the lack of snow in general a no foregrounder seemed the best choice to me.

Oh, no, it's not the lack of foreground I meant. That's fine. However, the sharp peak and bright moon make a very powerful focus of attention and putting that in the middle usually doesn't work best. Furthermore, to the right of them you have the shiny town, the only strong warm spot, which also draws quite a lot of attention and having it near the edge is not very good either. At the same time to the left of the peak it's kinda emptier and this makes the picture rather unbalanced and puts some tension in the composition. I'd try moving the peak to the left, so that it sits in one side of the picture, and the town sits comfortably in the other, both with enough space around to "breathe", opposing and balancing each other. Then if you wish to emphasize more on those awesome cliffs, move the peak to the right instead and make a different shot without the town, with just the cold untouched moonlit mountains.

Damn, that's one good feedback post right there! Thanks! I do agree with the old 2/3 rule most of the time and I see where you are coming from. In this case however I deliberately broke it because putting the peak in either the first or the third third would resulted in a very unbalanced composition from where I was standing (there wasn't much space to move either because it was a very narrow ridge and it was freakishly windy). So instead I focused on a classic mid triangle compo as explained in the photo attached to the post here: s38.photobucket.com/user/Truew…
I don't see how the composition is unbalanced as I tried to balance out all the different element (of course the contrasts in the patchy ridge aren't as big as the town on the right but I had nothing else to work with). And In case you wonder the moon is unbalanced because it rose ever higher and would've been even closer to the edge of the frame, also as you mentioned having things a tad unbalanced does create some tension, and some of it I do like.
Oh, and I do have a version without the town and more of the ridge I just haven't edited it yet. I can send it your way when I get around to editing it, then I hope you will agree that it doesn't quite work as well as this one.

Of course I cannot know what lies beyond the frames of the picture. The only way to tell what would have been better (for me) is to stand right where you were and try taking the pictures myself. Certainly, sometimes there's not much of a choice, what you see is not necessarily what would work best and what you'd choose to put there if you were painting, for example. The rest is subjective. My feeling about this composition is just different (I also don't really like said tension much - also subjective). I don't obey rules for the sake of rules, but damn them, they work XD Most of the time. Sometimes breaking them can be a touch of genius.
Don't worry, I'll see the other picture when you post it. I'm watching you so I won't miss it. This will widen my view
