Description Yeaaaah... I don't really have influences. Not really many inspirations either. I'll take this down shortly too because of the content.

But, from left to right and up to down:
1. Tornadoes and awesome weather like thunderstorms.
I aspire to be a tornado, leaving as much disorganization and tears behind me.

2. Well done black and white artwork in general, and even more, black and white noir comics. Also German expressionism.

3. Everything gruesome that nature has produced.

4. Creepy mythology and horror stories of all countries. Except maybe Greece. haven't found anything that interesting from there yet.

5. Basically everything Tim Schafer has done and things related to them, and Psychonauts especially.

6. Ice Latte. It has become this sort of "before drawing think drink" where I slowly sip a glass of ice latte and doodle ideas before really starting to work on something.

7. Old clothes, things, buildings, mainly that sort of Victorian London type o' thing. Except steampunk. I have this really weird hatred of steampunk.

8. Music in general. My taste changes so often that there's no song that would automatically inspire me.

9. Oh god why does this exist nature that's so odd and weird that you don't understand how nature could've produced such things. This also includes mutations.

10. Aaand nature in general.

11. Okay, who didn't guess this one? Yeaaah Tim Burton and related things.

12. Fantastic colours of anything, but especially the ones in morning sky.

13. Mike Mignola. Is there an influence map without him?

That's why it kinda pains me when I hear someone saying that they don't find Japanese folklore interesting. Skeletons, man! 80 foot tall skeletons! That eat people!
Is there any other folklore with something like that?

Oh, and you might like this, it features one: [link]

That, or "durrhurr is it a kitsune with tails just liek from naruto??" :I
(I think on almost every drawing on this site done by a major artist that features a multi-tailed fox, someone always manages to bring up Naruto. Always).

I'm almost halfway through the ep but the animation is amazingly clear on my comp. :<
I've always had a "thing" for skeletons, from Ghost Rider, the Grim Reaper, to typical Halloween ones, etc.
I don't think I've heard of this series prior but if it's about the supernatural, hell, I'll give it a shot!

HNNNNNGH!
It's really sad that to most people Japanese folklore only means wolfaboos and foxes and dog ears, when in reality it's full of completely wacked up stuff, like yokai that come to lick your bathtub at night.

Ah, same here, I love skeletons. Like (well the Ghost Rider movie was just sad, but I do own some of the comics,) Skullduggery Pleasant, Lord Raptor and so on.

Oh, and I might suggest that you try this too: [link]
It's basically the same series, but keeps with the original manga feel and is much creepier and less cutesy.

The Japanese know how to do horror, folklore -and- psychologically wise. (although I think the dark-haired ghost females probably still scare me the most lol).

I own some of the 80s comics but I never got to see the film (Nicolas Cage doesn't look much like Johnny Blaze but I heard it wasn't that great....even though I was sincerely looking forward to the film when it came out but alas...) Botched live action film versions of comics seem to have become a common habit.

Just watched the whole thing. :<
Kitaro definitely seems creepier/less "nice" in this version than the other version you just linked me to. And his one eye always looks like it's glaring lol. I think those two are the first full anime eps I've watched in a long while.

The Ghost Rider movie has one or two good parts, but overall it was just so disappointing and mediocre... Which is really sad, since if it was done in a bit more darker style and feet to the ground, so to say, it might've been really good. Same sort of approach like in Sin City maybe and bit less magical (and just less, five was too much) baddies and yeah, that'd be the stuff.

Did you know that Kitaro is basically as famous in Japan as Mickey Mouse is in America?
It was originally done in the 60's (after the artist had lost his drawing arm, so he learned to draw again with the remaining hand) in the same mood as the Hakaba no Kitaro and the got re-done as bit more... child friendly version. There's like.. five different anime series that've been done through the years.

There's couple episodes more in there so keep watching if you like!

I was actually kinda surprised at how old that series after I looked up some of the dates on Wikipedia. I actually didn't know that, I was too busy being force-fed Final Fantasy and Naruto so sometimes it gets harder to find some of the other stuff. To dedicate yourself to drawing with your opposite hand and creating something like this takes some serious balls. Seriously...he must have like a will of steel and art fused together.

I honestly think I will. :<

I like how there's not even a full minute and a half into the film and there's already death.

I remember watching one of the later Devilman films (at least I think it was a later one) and even now I can't remember much of the plot but the insane gore had me nearly LOLing for most of it.
Now here's my chance to see if I can retain a bit more. :<

Hey now, the 70's Devilman anime was the first violent anime to ever be shown in tv! Like ten minutes in and someone get's stabbed to the eye with an icicle. These days that one looks kinda awkwardly cute and outdated but these versions keep up with the legacy.

That later one was probably the Amon: Apocalypse of Devilman one. Yeah it's a total gorefest and even I can't understand the plot.

Oh, believe me. I hardly, if ever, take an issue with anime violence (in a lot of cases it's actually quite the opposite). But it's good to know that it sort of "keeps things up" instead of toning them down over the decades like some series.

I think that was it because I remember some hairy yet kinda cool looking red demon guy saying "Amon" over and over. So that makes sense lol.

I remember reading that almost nobody knows about this series (compared on how flippin' popular it's in Japan). Kinda funny how that works, that popular crap spreads everywhere but popular good stuff stays there.

Not to mention that he lost the arm in the war. He then channeled the traumas of the war to the comics, which possibly explain why Kitaro is much more meaner and the original stories are more crueler.

You don't need to take it down, as long as you put a "mature content" warning on it. I think DA will allow you to keep it up, but either way, this is pretty cool.

NightmareHound In reply to choas-warrior [2010-08-22 19:44:25 +0000 UTC]

It features art that was not done by me, so it's against the DA TOS even if it would have the mature content warning on.

NightmareHound In reply to choas-warrior [2010-08-22 20:34:38 +0000 UTC]

Even if it's in the Scraps, it's still in DA and still against the TOS.
