It was going to be called Black Lung at first but I filled his chest with that firey smoke so I shortened the title.

I like Grouper a lot, Stars of the Lid, Boards of Canada, Om, Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, William Basinski.
You probably know these musicians - Fever Ray, Sigur Ros, Brian Eno, Tangerine Dream. Portishead maybe?
Sun Ra, Miles Davis, Jonn Zorn all make some good ambient jazz, Medeski, Martin & Wood too.
There are some good trip hop, chill out bands - Rabbit in the Moon comes to mind.
Nurse with Wound, Burzum, Swans, and Neurosis might be considered dark ambient.
Listen to Gregorian chants or Ravi Shankar for some old school ambient :]
OK, I'll stop. Ambient is a bigger category than I thought, a lot of the music you and I discuss overlaps.

In an interview, a member of Bell Witch said he wants to make listeners to focus on music and feel discomfort through long and repetitive sequences. I think they used the same idea in this movie, sooo it can be little boring.
