Description
In an ideal world this would have been finished, coloured and posted by Christmas of 2009. That being said, this is not an ideal world.Fakia and Ahiru from Princess Tutu in Nutcracker inspired garb. I read the original story by E.T.A. Hoffman over Christmas break and I've been listening to the ballet a lot lately, so... Yeah. It was inevitable.
I'm beginning to really get into Tchaikovsky, good stuff...
So cleary they're a little older here. It's meant to look like Fakia's sheilding her from something, likely a giant evil rat or something of the sort. Who gives a fuck, right?
Yes, I am terribly ashamed of the rather desu-ie look of this piece, but whatever. It seemed like a good idea at the time, and it's taken way too long to just not post it. Hopefully soon I'll have some time to colour it.
Want proof? I sketched the thing in pencil and then did all the lines on a seperate layer with the polygonal lasso (with the mouse) using the sketch as a guide. You don't want to know how long this took. Here's the original sketch: [link]

Your lineart is amazing. Good use of subtle transitions from thick to thin. Love the Nutcracker reference. I think you placed them in suiting roles.
I'm not good with colouring, but I do want to practice in order to get better. That being said, would you mind if I practiced on this? I may not be good, but I'll give it all I've got.

Thank you so much! It's comments like yours that make it all worth it. I read the book and I knew I had to try it. Ahiru in particular reminds me a lot of Marie, (or Clara, in the ballet version. In the book her name is Marie, for some reason they switched it) very compassionate and willing to sacrifice.

Ah, I can see what you mean about the comparison. They really are quite alike. I feel that the role you placed Fakir in is also quite fitting.
It's peculiar that they would change the name from the book though I have not read it, but always wanted to. Still without reading it causes me to wonder the reason. Hmm.

I did! Many moons ago, when I was a wee lass.
However, that was way before Nutcracker. The version I did was actually done with eastern european dance. THE TIN SOLDIERS AND THE RATS DID RUSSIAN SWORDS DANCING AND IT WAS FUCKING AWESOME except one time during rehearsal with a sword broke and nearly hit me in the face.
