I noticed there wasnt very much third level Ichigo out there so I thought I'd paint his sexy mug. I havent done a fanart in a very long time!
I couldn't think of any better ideas for the background or the light source. In 'the lust' there isnt really any identifiable background to the fight scene either ...
I've tried out some things I wouldnt normally do - the hair is a tad more animated and the skin has texture.
I used a photo from my alternate account, ~RogueAttic , of my friend James for reference. You can see his pretty blue eyes Here

I saw this published at the end of the Bleach chapter at MangaShare, and I've always like when people have attempted to do realistic art out of manga characters. I like Ichigo's face here very much, you carry over the softness from the original, yet the underlying aggressive edgy-ness. However, I feel this picture would be much more complete with a few changes. First, I think you could have changed the angle of his face, looking slightly more upwards. The problem with your picture is that it currently isn't trying to say anything, there is no story behind it. If you change Ichigo to face the lightning, you will suddenly tell a story about redemption, a big theme of the HM arc. I also think for a background, you could definitely use a crescent moon as lightning source, with a few stars scattered across the dome. Remember that there is only nightsky in HM, and this plays well on the lunar/heaven theme, not only in that the moon often symbolize Ichigo, but also in that god is usually seen as redemption symbolized by the sun. Inverting this makes the story more complex and interesting.
Lastly, having the mask crack also creates some movement and action; currently the only thing moving is the hair, but I think what you are lacking is more aggressive movement. This picture looks like he's out gassing in the sun, and it seems to be so opposite of what the HM arc is about. I'm not saying that you should rip off the scene where his mask cracks in the manga, but I think it can be a good reference point of what I'm trying to say.

Hi, sorry for the slow response but I rarely if ever use my DA account anymore. I don't mind portraits I guess, but portraits are of course never as interesting to look at as a complete painting with a story behind it. I just notice that there is a tendency to ignore backgrounds or story in pictures because I think a lot of people simply aren't aware that stories can be told visually in still art just like with words or with sound, so when I see a lack of background this is usually where I start.
I would definitely implore you to go back to this picture at some point, the good aspect of digital art is that you can always go back where you started if you screw up

I was looking around because I recently tried drawing him. But, most of what came up in a search, doesn't really look like him to me. It's not that I draw well, but I was surprised that I liked my picture more than a lot I saw (which weren't really realistic anyhow). Except yours and one or two others that I thought were really good.

The search system for dA is strange. I often see images with 'low' statistics on the first picture, so I have no idea how it works. You'll probably find that the images with the higher statisitics are the good pictures that youre looking for (although not always).

I guess the searches depend on how closely the search words match the key terms of the picture. Sometimes my pictures come up when searching, but mainly because I search for the same words I used when submitting my picture. Like when I search for "Ichigo realistic" I don't see mine, but if I search for "Ichigo realistic long hair" mine is the top one (even though it's unpopular), and yours is just a little after it.
