Description
Many times have people asked how I do my traditional colored pencil works. And now I have finally finished my second tutorial. This one tells not only using of normal colored pencils but also the watercolor pencils, because if I make a drawing with colored pencils I allways use also the watercolor pencils. I almost never use water with the watercolor pencils, I just love the stronger and more covering feeling of them. This tutorial tells actually only about skin coloring, but the tecnique is same when I color something else.
If you are interested about my traditional art tecniques, you should also see my watercolor tutorial.

Thank you! Yes, I can tell, but I'm not sure if it'll help. They are from a Finnish art store (zomg I don't know what's the real name for a store where you can buy paint and pencils etc : D ) But the brand is Derwent, maybe they have a web shop?

You're welcome! But tha thanks is mine, this tutorial really helped me a lot (now I don't use all that amount of pencils - that wasn't necessary as well)
But I have one question: how did you do to your colloring be good in the computer? Because when it's in the computer, some colors fade and it doesn't have the same effect
Thanks for answering again! Because a lot of peoples (the ones who draw best and do tutorials) never answer o_o'

You are right, computer coloring is very different. So I use very different methods when I use photoshop etc. There are various styles to color with computer and I don't have one specific style only.
Here are some tutorials that have been useful for me, they might help you too:

ok.. i wanna ask something... you said that canson sketch book is too weak (which i use and which is true ).. it's just.. can you recommend other sketchbooks other than you stated there??.. if you don't know any it's ok(that black '
erfect' one isn't sold here).. :3 nice tutorial btw.. i haven't thought of using white.. it must give a very nice feeling to the drawing...

nokecha In reply to CrimsonStigmata2501 [2008-10-28 19:50:27 +0000 UTC]
Well actually I think the paper is good for this kind of coloring, when it's thick enough. Usually paper is good when there is a text "drawing paper" and NOT "sketch paper". If you are unsure, ask from the store you are buying. There are so many papers! Also watercolor paper can be used, it's almost always thick enough.

How did u color her sleeves?
I am having a bit of trouble with coloring traditionally.
Can u give me a few more tips?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
nokecha In reply to DemonsPrincess [2008-08-14 06:57:33 +0000 UTC]
I used brown, grey and a lot of white when I colored her sleeves. And pink and little darker pink. But the thecnique is still the same I used to color the skin.

I am scared to try this method because I feel I might mess up.
I am really having a hard time with shading too.
And it is mostly when I color the skin.
So if my character's skin colr is brown do I use really dark brown and black for shading?

nokecha In reply to DemonsPrincess [2008-08-15 07:49:01 +0000 UTC]
Yes, I think dark brown and black would be the best. But it ofcourse depends on the characters skin color. You can also use for example a very dark violet or blue for the shaiding.

With brown skin?
What strange effect will that make?

nokecha In reply to DemonsPrincess [2008-08-15 19:05:04 +0000 UTC]
It's good to experiment ;D It may sometimes bring interesting results. But the safer way is dark brown and black shading with a brown skin

Yes, there is the risk D: But sometimes it may be worth it. But if you feel unsure, you should first get familiar with the basic colors.

nokecha In reply to yaru [2008-07-23 19:31:37 +0000 UTC]
Well I use scanner too and the result is not good, but I adjust colors and lightning with the photoshop so I can get quite original feeling. Usually you get much sharper result with scanner than with a camera, but it ofcourse depends on the camera/scanner.
