Description ...I really can...

...And the sad thing?

...Caffeine barely has any effect on me...

Also, another old pic (probably about 2008).

May be moved to scraps later...
May even be colored later...

Anyway, I agree. I drink caffeine every day, although it is tea, and it never does anything. Calms me down a bit, actually.

I'm actually very much able to fall asleep even after having a full cup of coffee. Not that I usually drink it at night/before going to sleep, but it's easily happened before.

...Then again, I mainly drink it for the taste anyway...

I once got heart palpitations from drinking coffee. I was dorming alone in school that time so I was so afraid I was going to get a heart attack so I stayed outdoors in case I needed medical help.

Today (at the time of the posting of this comment) was the first day in a very long time that I had coffee. I only like black coffee like Godot. Oh yeah.

It's possible you may have a caffeine sensitivity. If it makes you like that, just be careful of how much you consume. In other words, if you're drinking the normal coffee, you may want to try decaff.

I have no consistent way in how I like my coffee (except that I always have sugar in it). I've had it with creamer, without creamer, with cocoa (like the container you get for cooking), vanilla, brown sugar, hazelnut flavored, and almost any combination thereof. Even though I'm a (RAGING!!) chocoholic, I think my favorite out of the group is hazelnut. ...Delicious. ^w^

NotAnotherZeroFan In reply to BlueHedgie [2010-03-16 16:11:44 +0000 UTC]

My other top picks are peach, apricot, cherry and apple (jelly).

A few months back, I also made a delicious peach spread (it was really just peach syrup with peach chunks in it, but it was awesome! ). Doing stuff like this caused me to have a preference for homemade syrup (I need pectin for jams, preserve, etc...) over the store-bought stuff. I still do eat the store bought (jams, preserve, etc... Fruit syrups are expensive...) though.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BlueHedgie In reply to NotAnotherZeroFan [2010-03-16 16:21:19 +0000 UTC]

Nothing beats the homemade stuff really. Epecially my nan's homemade blackcurrent jam. Though those healthy variety mixed type james where like they'd have marmalade and like even lemon marmalade perhaps mixed with it is gorgeous.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NotAnotherZeroFan In reply to BlueHedgie [2010-03-16 16:36:46 +0000 UTC]

Absolutely true! That, plus, over here, everything's laden with high fructose corn syrup (among other things...). It's not just the health issues that put me off to that stuff, but it has a bit of an off taste...

I've never really been a marmalade fan... Then again, the only type I've had is orange, and it's possible that I'm just put off by the texture.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BlueHedgie In reply to NotAnotherZeroFan [2010-03-16 16:44:22 +0000 UTC]

I like the texture. Like There was this one... and I think there was another fruit in it (I'm not sure) but I think it had some of the skin from the oranges in it and it was lovely to taste!

...Say, ever try to make any fruit spreads of syrups? Doesn't necessarily need canning if you plan on using it soon.

No. No. Quite plainly for the reason I fail when it comes to making any food stuffs. Except quiche, thank you Junior Cert Home Ec. exam.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NotAnotherZeroFan In reply to BlueHedgie [2010-03-16 18:17:06 +0000 UTC]

You could probably start with the syrup. It has only three ingredients (if you're keeping it simple): sugar, lemon juice, and your choice of fruit. And, all you really have to do is chop it up with a food processor, immersion blender (my personal choice now, lol), etc..., then put it all in a pot and let come to a boil.

Only thing you really have to watch out for is boil-overs, and skimming off that foam that appears on top (seems to only be an issue when I make strawberry though...).

Also, typically, the fruit-to-sugar ratio is the same (one cup fruit for one cup sugar). You'll have to check measurements between what jars and the final amount you get though (keep an extra jar handy just in case you end up having some left over). I normally use bottles for the syrup, but some varieties just come out thicker (blueberry), so, if you're doing anything other than strawberry for the first time, you may want to use a jar.

Another thing on the fruit-to-sugar ratio: if using a sweeter type of fruit, the ratio'll have to be changed a bit. I'm still experimenting myself, but the closest I am at this point is 1/4 sugar to 3/4 fruit.

I'd give an exact recipe too, but I don't know how your measurements differ (between both cups and bottle/jar sizes).

Just keep this stuff in mind if you do decide to give it a try.

...Oh, and I'm not really big on cooking, but when I do, it usually turns out great. ...Then again, I mainly have only done baking (most of it cookies, and most of those chocolate chip); not necessarily the best person to come to if you want pan-fried food (depends on what it is though), lol...

BlueHedgie In reply to NotAnotherZeroFan [2010-03-16 18:36:57 +0000 UTC]

Oh... thanks for them tips there!

That's funny. My baking isn't the best... I'd normaly forget an ingredient. My savoury foos were always better.

*sigh*... I haven't cooked since the Junior Cert...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NotAnotherZeroFan In reply to BlueHedgie [2010-03-16 18:51:16 +0000 UTC]

No prob.

I probably helps that I'm always double and triple checking my ingredient list. Only other things I seem to be good at is omelettes, french toast, burgers (broiled), and steaks (broiled). Oh, and I make some pretty good batter onion rings and batter-fried shrimp too...

...'cept the oil turns all dark...

It's when you cook something close to the heating element in your oven. Some ovens have it as a default setting.

Here's a quick link on it:

In all seriousness, that is a bit surprising. Then again, there's probably (actually, most definitely, lol) cooking terms I don't know about either. I mean, I don't do a lot of real cooking (prepacked foods don't count, lol); probably the last time I did was about a month or two ago.

Well, I'm not an expert in cooking myself, but for those 3 years that I did Home Ec. in school not once did I come across that term as a method of cooking.
