Description Archelon ischyros, a sea turtle from the late Cretaceous of North America. It measured about 4 meters in length. A slightly modified version of my 2007 drawing.

Giant sea turtle. Good work on the water reflections and the colors.

Nice! This is actually on the Wikipedia page on Archelon--sans the signature. Were you aware of that?

My apologies. When I first asked that question, I suspected that you might have been another person who opened an account and treated it like Photobucket (I've seen it happen quite a bit), instead of submitting their own art. However, upon closer inspection, I've come to see that you are, indeed, the original artist. I suppose the idea of a piece found on deviantART being used on a Wikipedia page was so shocking to me, that my suspicions became aroused. Nevertheless, I apologize again for indirectly accusing you like that.

No pb! Just curious: what's so shocking about having a dA piece on wikipedia? Loads of people are uploading images both on wiki and dA...

Well, I guess it was shocking to me mainly because I had just never encountered it before. I mean, on certain internet-related articles, maybe, but never on a scientific/historical article. I guess I'll be a little more relaxed about it in the future, now.

They're actually the ancestors of the giant leatherback turtles aren't they?

avancna In reply to Guyverman [2008-10-24 05:43:32 +0000 UTC]

No: leatherbacks are more closely related to modern seaturtles than they are to Archelon

It certainly looks that way! The only difference is that these guys were huge
