Description
I want to get or make an outfit to go with this. This is a Sumerian headdress. It's fan art (history fan art? lol) in a way too cause I'm a Sumerian fan. It isn't a tv show anime or move. It's ancient history...lol literally.
While on Google one night on a whim I typed in Sumerian in the image search. I happened upon a Sumerian headdress that was reconstructed (not the original headdress they found in digs or anything, they made a new one based on original parts found) by someone who set it up in a museum. It was the headdress of Lady Pu Abi.
I believe the redone headdress was in a museum in Afghanistan when the war kicked up there a few years back and the museum was looted and destroyed. Sad.
I decided I wanted to make my own Sumerian headdress. I didn't not have nor could I get the materials to come anywhere close to the original replica of course so I only used materials around the house. Which was really fun trying to figure out how to do that flower thing coming out from behind the head...lol.
For appearances this is finished, however I do want to go back to it sometime and replace the paper straps that rest on the top of the head with leather or suade and actually attach the whole thing to the straps and to a frame that hides under the leaves and attaches to the three flower thing at the back. Right now it's a strap under the hair to hold the back on and it hides under the leaves when the whole thing is worn. (Actually at this point I want to redo it know what I know now and still use cheap materials, but not so craptastic as these)
I used a lot of poster board both for the leaves and flowers and the straps on the head and holding the flowers (with wire clothes hanger cut in three and glued to the back for support. I'll cover that in the back when I truly finish it.)
I gold leafed the..er leaves with 18 k gold (ooooh) the flowers in the back where painted with acrylic metallic gold.
I could not locate any of my long glass beads (I swear they hide from me! I saved them for something like this) so I used temporary plastic beads.
Also those pale rings glow in the dark, I used this tubing that people used to make bracelets and well I got the glow in the dark kind.
And my lovely model is a dummy head with wig...hehe. I love my dummy head.
That's Sumerian cuneiform in the background...hehe.
Edit: LOL this is not a hat, it says, right in the title Headress! I know it's not all that well done but it's not a hat lol

After I left my comment yesterday I did just that, did a google search and found some pretty cool stuff.
I'll make sure to take pictures of what I do as I start on it.
Trying to decide if I want to do this costume for halloween or Princess Jasmine like I was planning (might do both LOL)

lol the only metal in the whole thing are the cut pieces of metal clothes hangers I used to support the tall flowers. And I suppose the gold leaf paint.
This is the cheap as dirt version. I used posterboard for most of it along with beads and jewerly thread. (I mention most of this in the description lol)
Now someday when I get the proper materials I'll have metal leaves and metal flowers and leather straps etc but I couldn't wait forever for those things to make this.
SA is sheezyart [link]
It's an art site like deviantart with more customization features (like changing the look of one's userpage and allowing images in journals all free) and allows photomaniped fanart like my tv fandom walls which were removed by the staff here. Right now their server is down but shoud be back anytime. Sa is my favorite art site actually. I upload more there than here now.

Thanks for the info. This is the only art community minded site I have been involved with. I do not even know much tech computer stuff anyway. I have a hard time just working with DA.

Leather's really easy to work if you're trying to get good straps, so I'd recommend you go ahead with that. It'll help to reinforce the rest to be sturdier.
Way to make history-geekdom cool! ^-^

That was kind of like the first attempt with cheapest materials possible...I plan to re do it with better materials. I just have to get a hold of all the better materials first...lol
Yeah leather would work perfectly
Thank you!

That's awesome, I wish I had the patience for things like that lol.
Though, when I was younger, I did make an entire house [complete with furnishings] for my Barbie's. It was awesome, and took up so much space in my dad's basement lol I wish I had pictures.
