On April 27th, 2005, Meryl Staley, a 17 year old junior, has passed away peacefully. Since the beginning of the year she discovered that she had leukemia. Last we heard from her is that she was getting better.I knew her since two years ago. It's funny how we met. I went on a school shopping mall trip and was planning on wandering around the mall by myself (because I was a loser and had no one to really go with at that time) and it was then I met her. She was also by herself and she kindly asked whether she could hang around the mall with me. I never really talked to her before but by her kind courage I got to know her more during this trip. When I opened a new bottle of handsoap for her to wash her hands with she continually thanked me throughout the day even though it wasn't much. On my 18th birthday she gave me a rather interesting and fun day by cursing at the taxi company who kept us out in the cold rain for over and hour (and afterwards she called right away to apologize and tell that she was actually a really nice girl). She was a nice girl, a girl who smiled all the time and had a heart like an angel. She was a pretty girl who was kind to everyone. When we mention her she is remembered as the awkward but a very good girl who loved her friends and made them laugh.
We will all miss her presense. I know she's in a good place now. Rest in peace Meryl...rest in peace...

She were my only friend who really understand me.
Then just one day her mother called me and say what happened.. well now days I don't really have any friends in IRL. Manny says bad things of me like "Don't be her friend you could just bee killed". It wasn't my fault but still I think like I just let her die.
I miss her much. I hope I could someday have a friend who could smile and bee happy whit me like she did. I still can't forget her and I don't want to. Friend like her is hard to forget just like that. She will be whit me.. where ever she is.

Oh for Christ sake, when I hear stories like this Its impossible to keep myself from crying, I'm about to get kicked out of the library because of the noise I'm making.
Oh cruel fate by the hand of God, why do you grind our faces upon the sharp stones of sorrow, only to leave us bleeding on the ground, our tears mixing painfully in our wounds that pour forth blood, and as you take our loved ones from us to the golden gates, slamming lock shut behind so that we may not follow?!
Why do you selfishly rip life and love from the eyes of those we cherish? It seems so selfish of you!

I guess there really aren't answers for everything in life. We say that there is a reason why God chooses such ways, but...who knows? Who knows whether it's really for good or not.
But hey, I don't blame God. I don't blame anyone. Death really is just an every day thing in life...like there is always a shadow in every light. Of course, we have to try not to look just at the shadow, but view that there is a shadow BECAUSE there is a bright beautiful light. :3

my uncle's bestfriend was lost to that when he was 27. one of my favourate family stories of all time has him in it and when I heard he had passed away I felt like I had lost a friend because he was my favourate person remembered in the story.

That was so kind of you to post something like that. I'm so sorry you lost a friend... That's gotta be hard. My mom's got cancer too, and we heard she's getting better. I hope she is. She sounded like such a sweet girl...That's so tragic....I hope Meryl rests in peace.

I had Leukemia 3 years ago, when I was 12. I am grateful to have survived, but it is sad when all of those around you pass away when you are doing well.
