On April 27th, 2005, Meryl Staley, a 17 year old junior, has passed away peacefully. Since the beginning of the year she discovered that she had leukemia. Last we heard from her is that she was getting better.

I knew her since two years ago. It's funny how we met. I went on a school shopping mall trip and was planning on wandering around the mall by myself (because I was a loser and had no one to really go with at that time) and it was then I met her. She was also by herself and she kindly asked whether she could hang around the mall with me. I never really talked to her before but by her kind courage I got to know her more during this trip. When I opened a new bottle of handsoap for her to wash her hands with she continually thanked me throughout the day even though it wasn't much. On my 18th birthday she gave me a rather interesting and fun day by cursing at the taxi company who kept us out in the cold rain for over and hour (and afterwards she called right away to apologize and tell that she was actually a really nice girl). She was a nice girl, a girl who smiled all the time and had a heart like an angel. She was a pretty girl who was kind to everyone. When we mention her she is remembered as the awkward but a very good girl who loved her friends and made them laugh.

We will all miss her presense. I know she's in a good place now. Rest in peace Meryl...rest in peace...
