Considering the fact that Pitch was tricked by the fearlings and Nightmares whom turned him into what he is now, I'd say this spot on

What do you mean by reflection being the noblest method? And is the placement of Pitch next to the easiest method, by imitation, supposed to suggest that this method is somehow worse?

First off, this quote was by Confucius (I think) So the way I interpret it may or may not be correct.
Reflection being the noblest I think was meant in the way that says a wise man reflects on and learns from his mistakes, and a noble man will admit that he did, in fact, make a mistake to learn from.
It was not meant it make it worse, Pitch is a very... difficult character. He wants what the guardians have, to be believed in, to be recognized as real, and to do this, he try's to imitate what the guardian's are, a powerful influence on children. He knows that he will never be belived in if he stays hidden under beds, so he does what the guardians did, he spreads his center around the world, fear. However, he does go to extremes in trying to destroy the guardians. But anyway, he imitates the guardians by spreading his center around the world (they did dreams and hope, he did fear) and he is wise in the fact that he recognized the fact that he had to do it forcibly, it wasn't going to do it on it's own, same with the guardians, people in the middle ages were so scared they had to be forcibly shown that's not all there was in the world. I think Pitch was doing the same thing, but in reverse.
Wow.
Is it sad I put that much thought into a kid's movie?
Cause i not just the fight between good and bad, it's not, "OMG a bad guy! Kill it! Kill it!" It's way deeper then that, I know the main character was Jack, but he and Pitch aren't THAT different.
Pitch was tired of being alone to.

AHHH THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!!!
I had been thinking about what Pitch's motivation's were lately, but I couldn't quite place my finger on it. Sure, he wanted "to be believed in", but I knew there was more to it than that. So thanks!!!

That's a very satisfying answer. Thanks. I just wanted to know whether you oversimplified the matter, or not, and I'm glad to see that you didn't.
And no, it's not sad that you saw these things in the movie. It was a fun film with a simple and quite predictable plot structure, but I appreciated that they gave Pitch a real and understandable motivation and reasoning for his actions, instead of making him evil just for the sake of being evil.
Cheers!

No problem
Same here, I hate it when in a movie you're like "Okay so he's evil. Why? What motivation does he have?" And the answer is, "I dunno he just is." Great plot development there, very impressive.
