XD proportions that I can never ever use...

I can look at a person and tell if I've drawn them in proportion or not. Mostly. Bleach characters tend to throw me off, though. I did note that Kenpachi has a small head which makes him look huge, but my drawing sence won't let me do it, so Kenpachi always looks less menacing in my bleach doodles. Also with all of the characters, I tend to accidentally make their upper half too big because I constantly forget just how low cut those shirts come on them. And so they look correct but if the necklines were to be the correct length they tend to be oversised. Whoops.

I hate trying to measure proportions. Unfortunately, I hate drawing off the edge of the paper and me starting drawings in the center of the paper (because I'm weird) I tend to scrunch up the characters, so that throws off my proportions, too.

Wow. I just spent forever ranting about nothing. YAY!

Your sister had some problems too, so I'm working on a tutorial right now to help her out (hopefully). Maybe it'll help you.

You know, the easiest way, is to draw a line, cut it in half, then cut those two in half, and then cut the resulting four in half again...you get 8 head-lengths right away, then you can draw your Bleach characters however you need to.

The thing about skeletons first is that it can really help with flow and movement. The characters otherwise can end up looking very stiff or in a position that they theoretically couldn't get into.

I think you missed my point. ^^U my problem is that I can't use skeletons. I have a certain sense for proportions, but because I'm wierd I start in the center of the page, so my characters fall off the page... ^^U

Ah, I see. Well, what happens when you start up higher?

Shells124 In reply to Obi-quiet [2008-10-18 01:35:38 +0000 UTC]

usually they are in perfect proportion. I check and they are fine. Except for the bleach characters. The low cut outwits throw my sense of proportion off, and the creators of bleach draw some of them with odd proportion, as I do believe you have mentioned before. Like, Kenpachi. I fail at drawing Kenpachi in proportion because of his huge body and small head. >.<

Obi-quiet In reply to Shells124 [2008-10-18 03:13:26 +0000 UTC]

The smaller you make the head, the bigger they look. Try drawing Hulk...you probably won't have problems with Kenpachi after that one...

Daricio In reply to ??? [2008-10-12 00:52:41 +0000 UTC]

hahaha, once again, whenever I try to use proportions, everything I draw turns out like sausage people. XD Especially the shoulders. (a head width, even only almost a head width, makes the shoulders really wide for some reason. @.@)

All the tutorials in the world wouldn't help me draw in proportion, I think. XD But thanks!

... I had no idea the proportions were so weird in Bleach. XD wow. I had noted that sometimes their heads are drawn rather small...
And Ha, Shiro. Ne, you didn't get a picture that showed his eyes! ^^

We all know what those eyes look like... Besides, I had to prove a point.

I want to do a tutorial on muscle structure, which I think will help you with your "sausage people" problem.

Haha, very interesting! Lately I've just been eyeballing my drawings, I wonder what their proportions are?

Lately I've been having trouble with one of my characters, who is supposed to be rather short and chubby, but I can't get her to the right height withought making her look like a midget! -sigh-
