I love you
I love portrait art so much am going to kill my self, yet I cannot draw s***
that's why I want to start learning so so so hard i want to learn
do you have any advices about a site that I could learn portrait art using pencil from SCRATCH
that is ZERO NIL please

Obi-quiet In reply to iraqifreak [2007-12-15 18:33:02 +0000 UTC]

Truthfully, there isn't any way to really just learn overnight about portrait art. It takes a lot of practice, and the ability to make sure you have the proportions right (which I cover in my first tutorial. There should be a link in the artists notes). If you want to learn to draw faces, then look up a bunch of faces, and try to draw them (the "resources">"stock images" should help you out there from the home page of DA).

Hope that helps.

I'm not planning to learn over night of course, well that's just absolutely impossible, even if i was super man!!
I just want a place to set me straight and put me on the right track, after that practice practice practice thats how you become good at drawing or playing piano... etc, thanks for the advice

No prob. I hope to see what you come up with.

Oh, and try to copy other artists you admire (just don't claim their stuff). The more you learn from others, the more you can incorporate into your own.

o3o I'm feeling very inspired by your tutorial!

*___* you draw awesomely period.

ps: XD I'm still awed at how you got that second reference picture so close to the first one... It's almost exactly the same !! fantastic xp

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Obi-quiet In reply to KittyMira [2007-11-29 19:13:34 +0000 UTC]

It might be close, but it's a half of a centimeter that makes the difference. Still, I really appreciate that. Thank you so much, hon.

BTW, I think you draw awesomely. You have some really nice gesture to your stuff.

Have I ever told you that you're good at realism? Well, if not, I am now. You're really good at realism! My cousin also does a lot of realism and she's good at it too. You guys should get together and talk art sometime! (You know, like how I mentioned talking "English" and only "English people" can understand? That type of talk....lol) .......I scare myself sometimes.......

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Obi-quiet In reply to Mellina [2007-11-29 07:31:50 +0000 UTC]

LOL! You know, I can usually follow you when you go off on your "English" stuff. Your cousin is on my watch list.

And thank you so much, hon.

MysticFortuneCookie [2007-11-29 02:05:54 +0000 UTC]

Awesome! Thanks, this will help a lot!

By the way, what type of tablet do you use? I'm having a lot of difficulty with mine, but I don't know if it's the tablet or just my total lack of experience

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Obi-quiet In reply to MysticFortuneCookie [2007-11-29 02:08:04 +0000 UTC]

I'm using the Wacom tablet at the school I go to. A lot of it might be inexperience. Of course, something you could do is try to zoom in one or two times more than you're used to, and try working at that scale. It's a lot easier to blend and work on other techniques at that size, imo.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MysticFortuneCookie In reply to Obi-quiet [2007-11-30 21:46:03 +0000 UTC]

You're probably right, it's just so much easier to blame it on the tablet Hm, I've tried zooming it in really close and I still can't seem to draw even a half-decent line... wow, I must be worse than I thought o_O

Thanks for the help!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Obi-quiet In reply to MysticFortuneCookie [2007-12-01 05:21:47 +0000 UTC]

No, it could be the tablet. There could be something off with the connection. Also, get used to drawing a line over and over again until you get it right. I'll redo lines two or three times (or more) because it always works better if you draw the lines quickly.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MysticFortuneCookie In reply to Obi-quiet [2007-12-02 17:02:10 +0000 UTC]

Okay, I'll try that. Thanks so much for all the help you've been giving me I really appreciate it
