Description Sorry it's so big, but you need to be able to read the text. Hopefully you only have to scroll in one direction. -_-;

Well, some of you might've noticed that I draw my characters in profile quite often. I do this because I'm not very confident with any other angle, and profiles=no need ffor symmetry, which I love. I'm trying to break the habit, though...

Anyway, someone asked for a tutorial on profiles, since I can do them decently consistently. So I did. You have much reading to do. Or just ignore it all and look at the pictures. I tried to make it interesting reading, at least.

On tutorials in general:I went to an animation program last summer in which we took daily life drawing classes. On the first day, we were told, "Remember how they taught you to draw systematically? How you start with an egg for a head and a box for a chest? Forget all of that. They were WRONG."

And he was right. When drawing from life DRAW WHAT YOU SEE. Every face is different. These guidelines are IDEAL proportions. Only use them when making people up from your head, and even then, be wary. They're not real. After all, what fun would it be if everyone looked the same?

Also, my style is very different from, say, Maki Murakami's. (I was up all night reading Gravitation volume 3. *heart*) Because of that, my profiles look distinctive. I encourage you to try my way first, if it helps, then find your OWN way of drawing profiles. Yay for uniqueness.

..Sorry I talk so much, btw. -^^-

I often having a difficult time determining the spacing between the bridge of the nose and the surface of the eye. No matter where I put it, it looks wrong. damn it.

Thank you for this lovely tutorial! I avoid profile shots as if they were the Plague, but I really love how they look, so I hope I can develop a style of drawing them that won't make me cringe to look at.

Lips are still an issue though, but I shall persevere! You officially rock.

Oooh, interesting. *stares at everything for a really long time* I'm so fascinated by the way people draw. I can spend hours at a time watching animations on oekaki boards... Thank you for drawing this. You use a technique I haven't seen before.

*sweatdrop* Sorry. It really is all in practice.

Besides, who needs profiles? You can be like me and just not draw angles you're bad at!

-_-;
