Description
As per the norm with my deviation submissions, please click here to save your retinas, and view the image on a black background, thereby preserving shadow detail.Gentle morning light radiates throughout the Mackenzie Basin. The sun was at an altitude of just 11.3 degrees at the time this image was made, which provides for the softness in the quality of light prevalent in the image.
In the distance is the beautiful turquoise Lake Tekapo. Lake Tekapo has a surface area of roughly 83 square kilometres and sits approximately 700 metres above sea level.
The lake is being fed by the pristine glacial Godley River, seen in the image proper, as a network of braided twists and knots. The water in the lake has flowed 30 kilometres south from the Mount Cook region in the Southern Alps.

Edit: stoked at my third Daily Deviation. Thank you so much (^anoya) for featuring me.

Rigel4,
Thank you for checking my gallery out and leaving a comment.
New Zealand is paradise. Like I tell everyone who comments on the beauty of New Zealand, that, if they haven't already been, they owe themselves a favour to go and visit, at least once. It's a photographer's dream come true on every turn.

This is a beautiful picture, and a little different in a good way. Love it!

Unfortunately I live in Auckland now But yes, the place where I grew up is magnificent, and to see it or to return there moves me very deeply.
When you come to New Zealand I will take you for a trip up the Rangitata River. *Might* even be able to arrange a horse ride into the hills... But only if you remember my desire to own Red Tussock Dusk

It was a magnificent flight, that's for sure. I want to do it again, but, next time I want to jump out of the plane (skydiving)!

tabbee,
Ah, curiosity killed the cat!
Your friend and yourself forgot one more option -- a light aircraft! Whilst the plane was banking to the left, it gave me an opportunity to fill the entire frame of the camera with the scene, and, not get any of the window, nor the wings of the Cessna in the composition.
Thank you for looking and commenting.

Lots to look at, not a lot to critique !
I like the light/bright background, the braided river could be a little brighter or maybe a touch more contrast perhaps, but thats being picky !
Wonderful picture !

theLostBeeGee,
I understand where you're coming from regarding the brightness of the river region. I'll have a play around and see if it looks better.
Thank you for looking and taking the time to make a constructive criticism. I appreciate it!

Actually, after my comment, when looking at it on the black background, it improved the contrast, so maybe disregard that comment (I went back and forth)
Its still one helluva dramatic photo though !

theLostBeeGee,
Thanks for checking out the black background version.
I wish DeviantART would employ someone with a modicum of understanding around web site design with the intent of displaying photography (amongst other art). Anyone with basic design knowledge would realise that photography is best viewed with a neutral background such as grey, or, preferably black. The eyes are therefore not having to succumb to a glaring white background which destroys shadow detail in an image. This is the same shadow detail that we, as landscape photographers, work ever so hard to preserve in our images. This is also the reason why I won't join up with sites like Fl*ckr, for example.
A long time ago, DeviantART used to have a dark green background (if memory serves correctly), which, whilst not being ideal, was a billion times better than what we have today. I've been going on about this for a long time now, but, I don't expect change.
Thanks, again.
Regards,
H

I must admit, I was suprised at the difference with the black background, I must have taken the light green of DA for granted !
I do have pics on flikr [link]
but I also run an application that allows a continous view on a black background at whatever size you like, and its very good....heres the link to that page..

It was an amazing flight. I'm uploading video that I shot with the same camera to YouTube at the moment.
