another way of Blending images and textures. Layer Masks give you far greater selective control over how your textures blend into an image.a stock image has been used from pigeon-stock , and textures from resurgere and ickledinkstock .
this tutorial is largely based on a similar tutorial at t-gar-stock
try the full size view. you can't read it otherwise ..

You may want to burn or multiply light textures such as this so they don't look all white. Or you could make the hue of the texure similar to the skin if you still want to use overlay. You may also want to use the burn tool to define the shadows of the texture better.
