Description
This was one of the results of trying to make the 3D Design II deviation. It was so far from what I was trying for that I took it in this direction and starting over for the 3D design one. It's not nearly as good as I would like... There were a number of areas I wanted to improve this but nothing seemed to work out so I called it good and chalked it up as something I need to learn later.Edit:
I just replaced the image with a wallpaper size one but can't seem to find a fitting category for it. Suggestions?

I was just looking through comments to my deviations. I love your quote!
So many people seem to equate current impossibilities with actual impossibilities... it's a tad annoying actually.

Have you ever considered wallpapers, because I would use this if it where bigger

Actually. I've never considered wallpapers because I've never really felt to highly of my capabilities... I spent too much time with programming growing up and not enough in art. Even though art supplies is what my mom showered me with for almost half my life, I never really used them much, sadly.
But that's an awesome compliment! Thank you! I'm not sure exactly which size I saved the Photoshop file of this at, I'll see how it looks at a larger size. How big do you think would be best for wallpaper?

To answer your question, apologies for my ignorance, lol My best suggestion is 1024x768 but if you can only get it to 800x600 without ruining the image that would be good as well.

I upped it to 1024x768 with very little change in quality, tested on those three resolutions and it seems to scale nicely too. Now I just need a category to put it in, under wallpaper. I usually stick something like this under Misc. lol.

I would say the 800x600 or 1024x768 resolutions are the most common. 1280x960 gets used often as well for higher resolution screens.

Thanks . Dripping blood and a better motion blur would have been nice though

Hey. If you can do that, I'll start spreading it all over the web. ^_^
It's good.

Nope, those are the things I wanted to do but couldn't get to happen ... mostly the motion blur part, dripping blood would just be a brush. I'd be at a loss as to where to make the blood go though, with all the spinning and all.

lol. Would the blood even stick if the thing was moving fast enough? ^_~

No, that's my point. It would be flying around based on how the star is spinning. I'd have no clue where to throw it though; I wouldn't want to just fling it anywhere.

If you throw something fast enough along the top of a body of water, it will just bounce off as if the water were solid. It wouldn't catch any water or get wet.
Think of blood like water.

The blood that's already on it though, shouldn't that spin outwards from the star as it flies? Like when you swing a bucket of water or something, the momentum would be flinging blood outwards from the blades. If I tried to mimic that, though, I'd end up just throwing a mess of blood everywhere and it wouldn't look normal at all.

Dude. If there wasn't blood on it when it was thrown, depending on how fast and true it was thrown, it wouldn't get any blood on it no matter WHO it went through.

But it does have blood on it, that's where I'm getting my starting point. I guess this person was hacking people with throwing stars before actually throwing them then . Considering it has blood on it already, I don't think I could mimic the flow of blood off the star without making it look really poor.
That's where I think we're losing each other. Your assuming a clean star going through a target, which should come out relatively clean. I'm assuming the star is currently not clean and therefore the blood should be flying off the star right now due to momentum. Either way, painting the blood splatters is currently beyond me, I think.

O_o If the star was dirty to begin with, the only question remaining is how long has the star been in the air? Has it JUST been thrown, or has it been out of the hand for longer than a second?

No clue . It's just the only explanation I could come up with considering they ARE bloody now but you said they wouldn't be if the star was clean to begin with... Maybe this person is an odd duck and regularly uses the stars as both a melee weapon as well as a ranged one. That would explain them being bloody regardless of the time since leaving his hand, dried blood. Which would also explain the utter lack of flying blood. It has yet to reach a target I guess...

lol. It's not you, it's the fact that we're arguing about the physics behind splattering blood from a ninja star in flight. ^_^
That's a mouthful... Try saying that five times fast... P_P
