Description
I've decided to post pictures of my non-Thomas toy trains for some reason.
From left to right, here are the models-
* Tank loco. I first got this model around 1999-ish at an indoor car boot sale (I think it was Peterborough, but I was only about 4 or 5 at the time so I'm not certain.) This model cameoed in my stop motion video I posted back in April 2013. Since then I've inscribed "NCB" on the tanks. This was because I used the model in a short film I made at college involving a coal mine.
* Β Observation coach. I bought this as part of a job lot from a car boot sale a few years back, around 2008/2009. It's more or less the same design as the regular matchbox coach, but green/cream instead of red/cream, and with a compartment on the roof. Oddly, there's something inside it. I think it's just some sort of old plant, but I was initially worried that it might be a 35 year old dead moth, that somehow managed to get into the coach and die a slow, horrible death. Ah well. At least there are air holes in that thing.
* Tank loco. This one is missing a buffer, but on the plus side it has the lining and number on the tanks. I think I received this in the same job lot as the observation coach but I'm not certain.
* Passenger coaches. From the same job lot.
* Pannier tank. This was the first matchbox loco I owned. It was originally from my nursery school, but somehow I was allowed to keep it. I imagine I was probably the only kid who played with it. Who else would when there's a whole load of brio track and engines to muck about with? This would have been 1998. I have another pannier tank as well, with the GWR lettering intact, but I can't find it.
* tipper wagons. These may have been from the same job lot as the coaches.Β
* Diesel shunters. These were bought individually from car boot sales.
* Flat truck. From the same job lot as the coaches.
* Tank loco and passenger coach. I bought these from Saddington car boot sale. they're quite odd-looking when compared to all the other engines in this collection. I'm not sure whether these were part of a set, or standalone models, but either way they're pretty garish, and I can't see wanting to make it in Trainz any time soon.
Out of curiosity, when were the matchbox trains discontinued? The fact that they're pretty common at car boots and markets seems to indicate a long lifespan.

Also,Β the green coach is meant to represent an American caboose.

Yeah, I think I'll leave #456 out of the range.....
Feel free to do a reskin though.
I think the trains were made for about 5 years which is a fairly long run. They're not very common here but I do have 3 red tanks and a green one in BR colours which is quite rare.
I have a picture of my not-as-extensive collection to post, and you've just made me want to post it!

Only 5 years? for some reason I thought it was longer than that. I guess they were just fairly popular then. I suppose the fact that they're flangeless and don't really need track (despite the fact that track was made) meant that you could use them anywhere and not damage them, a bit like, well matchbox cars! Well it's 6 years if you count the one year the twin-pack was made.
