Description
Another work in progress! This one has been set aside on the back burner for a while, as most of what's left to finish are the clouds and those are mind-numbingly dull to draw, especially when they're proving uncooperative.Taken from the cover of a wonderful book that I highly recommend called Stepping Heavenward by Elizabeth Prentiss. ETA: Name of original painting and artist has been discovered: "Girl Stands in a Field Reading Her Book", by Harold Knight

I think I've seen this as cover art for a book.

LOL, yes, I mentioned that in my summary. It's from Stepping Heavenward, which, if you haven't read, is a fantastic book that you really ought to read!

LOL I hate drawing clouds now too.
I'm using mostly Berol colored pencils.

They say "Berol Prismacolor" then the color name, then the color number. Does that help?

Looking good!
Try adding a little green tone on her face and dress, just a touch, to tie her in with the green grass and everything. You'll find hatching useful for grass, too (which is up there with clouds in the mind-numbingness, unfortunately )
What sort of coloured pencils are you using? They seem very soft and creamy, almost like pastels. You're getting some lovely effects with them, anyway. I love her hair.

Thank you!
Green on her dress and face? Really? Somehow that sounds like she'll end up looking sickly, but I'm presuming you mean that it'll tie all the colors in together, and emulate how light bounces off of colors and "shares" and spreads them onto other things?
I'm using almost exclusively Berol colored pencils. They used to be my mom's so old I don't remember them not being around. They are soft and creamy, which is exactly why I love them and will be very sad when they eventually run out!

Just a very little. A bit of purple in her skin could work, too. Reflective colour is more common than you'd think, and ties the subject into the environment. With no reflective colour, it's quite easy to make it look as though the subject is just stuck into the environment. However, reflective colour is also pretty scary. I do not do it enough!
Take a look at [link]
You can see reflection of the ground on the bottom of her dress, and reflection of the pink of her dress on her arm.
I've never tried them. I use Prismacolours, which are pretty creamy (although they don't seem to be as creamy as your Berol) and have nice vibrant colours.

Hmmm, you're right -- I've had that happen when trying to take photos of things too near direct light bouncing off a colored object. I'll have to try adding some, thank you!
Mine say "Berol Prismacolors" -- are those what you use?

I'm always fascinated by the way things occur and we just take them for granted, and then don't notice them when we come to draw things.
My Prismacolours are from Sanford. I love them.

Yes!
What's a Prismacolor if they can be made by different companies?

Sanford bought out Berol, so I think they're basically the same thing.
It's so confusing when companies do that!
