Description
a strange fellowbestowed his slow strut
upon the side-walk
catercorner from
my car.
(I watched as if
the light
would never
change.)
one hand-to-
mouth
the other flailed
as if conducting
the wild orchestra
that was his own
wandering
eyes.
he was just-more-
than walking in place
as the sun kicked
pretty silver
from the wet-
prerequisite of
a spit-
shined chin.
(the horns
of those behind me
had begun to
sound.)
this man did not
know the world
that imprisoned me
NO!
he existed
the way dogs dream;
legs kicking, barking, whining,
merely reacting
here
to occurrences
in another realm
and as cars
flew past
honking,
middle fingers like
thin-tubby little-
flesh microphones
to amplify the,
Move it asshole!
there was a place
I'd rather be.

I really like this image of a man among everything stopped, yet so animated. Thank you for this sliver of another world.

This is an excellent piece, very direct and focused, neatly bracketed by the span of a traffic light. Other than the shouted "NO!" which doesn't require the double capitalization (and which is weakened because of its odd look), this is exceptional.
Thanks for sharing.

Nicely vivid description; it really evokes the person in the moment, makes the whole thing seem near palpable.

dog dreams, huh?
oh, the "barking, whining" mind of a poet.

That world that imprisons us. Locked up tight we are. And don't even know it... until a poem like this comes along.
