Description
Another illustration of Tolkien's "Farmer Giles of Ham". This time it's dragons gossiping about humans. Now you can see where most of my time goes right now. Hey, at least I can brag that I'm doing a thesis on dragons.
Which one of these guys is your favorite?

Hehehe, I like the tiny guy the most too, he makes me think of one of my rats (though really all my dragons are a bit inspired by rats). I think in the original text they are gossiping if knights really exist. Illustrating this book was always a bit of an inside joke - I started working on it after my big psychotic episode, and after the worst medication, so by then I was pretty sure dragons were out there. My thesis advisor didn't know, poor woman, I still feel a bit bad about that.
I illustrated Tolkien's "Leaf by Niggle" a couple of years before that - for some reason I never uploaded any of it online and it feels odd uploading it now (maybe I'll put it in some separate place like Stash someday) but talk about premonitions... I suspect you've read it but if you haven't, do it - it's very short and is about things we've been talking about recently.

You're right! They do look like rats! I'll have to check out the other illustrations now...
Well, I hadn't read 'Leaf by Niggle' and now I have - andΒ I thank you. Now I will have to go away and think about that one, a whole lot- and I would dearly like to see your illustrations someday, if you ever to upload them.
Some day I will have to send you a short story I wrote recently about a painter, - goes with this painting -- Mouse

Rats can look just as majestic, you should see how they yawn!
I still have your other stories to finish but yeah, I'd love to read it someday.
I used to never have any characters who could draw (because they had better things to do, I thought), then there was only one, now I keep thinking how each of them feels about art, even if it's finger-painting or something like that. I think it's a bit like writing teenagers - I had to grow older and get away from art class environment to let myself think about it.

That is one amazing photo! The dragons are easy to imagine, relaxing in the sun...after a good meal...
You have only to ask.
Hm- I can understand that. So many things one has to have gone thru and out the other side in order to write about them convincingly. And only time can show you the things that are really important to you, that are central to being who you are.

I love the one on the rock! Although thereally toothy one looks like he's really enthralled by this gossip, he looks like he should almost be drooling it's that juicyΒ

Hehehe! I think I like the tiny one the most, but it's probably because he reminds me of my rats, tiny derpy guy... Gosh, that thesis cost me a lot of nerves but I'm starting to look at it fondly again now...

He is kind of cute too, and i can sympathise with you!Β Sometimes things we suffered over make us hate them for a while afterwards, but then we can look back and appreciate them (personally this has never happened to me lol, but I can imagine it!)

I wouldn't want to go back to those times, that's for sure! But it's weird - I can never be sure which of those days caused good things that happened later so I can't feel entirely bitter about them. And I'd illustrate this book differently these days but I'm glad I did it that way back then. That kind of feeling? But for a while I just couldn't talk about this book.

I love the vibrant colors and variations between them all (the blue one is my favorite ;u; )

Thank you! And inking scales actually takes about as long as rendering it with pencil over inks, so it's only twice as long as just coloring it - so it's not as bad as I expected at first! And it's kind of comforting to do it in a way.

I really don't like art with dragons... I mean "classic" or anthro art. But your cartoon creatures looks so nice and awesome. I love their scales - you put a lot of work into it.
It reminds me of a book from my childhood.
I don't remember title now, but in this book was a lot of awesome cartoon dragons.
I'm sorry I don't write back today, but I'm tired after my drugs (I don't have the strength to think ) and now I'll go to bed.
I will try to write back tomorrow.
And of course sorry for my English.

Aww, "reminds me a book from my childhood" is one of the best compliments an illustrator can get because we usually remember the most awesome and vibrant books! Thanks! And if you remember the name of the book, I'd love to know it, it sounds interesting!
And don't worry about not writing back today, everyone has busy/tiring/bad days sometimes.

I found this title. It is a Polish book, "Scenes from the life of Dragons" (author - Beata Krupska) illustrated by Edward Lutczyn. Huh, that was awesome.
