Awesome. Thank you so much. Great tip about doing the shading first in b&w, it makes the shadows more consistent.

Very nice tutorial!!
But I have so much doubts about the sading part, normally I use Photoshop for colouring, could you give a few advices to configure the brush (I use a tablet) and the color I should use, I'm not sure if it's black or gray and should it be in multiply while I use it?? thanks and hopefully you'll help me out!!
I really liked your colouring stile, this way colors look so much better, I wish I could get to this level soon!! (yeah right) hehehe thanks again!!!
byes!!

T he layer setting for the Shade Layer should be on 'Multiply' while your brush should be on 'Normal' mode using either grey or black if you like.
Onec uyou finish shadeing on this layer with your greys and blacks, you can then tint the colours of that layer and get the warm or cool hues to the shade.
Hope that helps!

omar dogan.... i dont think u can color balance with gray scale in photoshop... i doesn't do anything, and i think most people here use photoshop.. but i got it to work by shading it with a darker color of the flat (i think anything but grey works)
the tinting part of this tutorial is killing everyone!!! ahhhh
hope that helps you guys

Hey, Please, other question. How do you use The flats ? you have all flats in just one layer in mode "Normal" or mode "Colour" or multiply or what mode? This question is because i don't understand if you keep the shadows or you modify the shadows founding your colors with "Color balance" then i don't understand what do you do with the flats and how it influence in the final picture.
Please answer me and thanks

Omar-Dogan In reply to Arzuza [2008-01-16 20:22:22 +0000 UTC]
Flats are on 'normal'
Shade is on 'multiply'
You tint the Shade layer, and leave the flats layer.

Usually when I see coloring tutorials, they have people shading with darkened colors. This idea of shading in BW then multiplying it to the base colors is great! Bravo.

Wow, this is the kind of art that I want to move my style toward. This is an amazing tutorial and it really taught me allot, however I was just curious, I dont really understanding how you get the shading that was on grayscale to change into the same color as the flat... I hope that sentence made sence >_<. But yea if you could give me some tips on a color peice that I just did I would really apreciate it. Once again, u is teh awesomeness!!!

I have a question?
How did you shade it in BnW first and then use flat colors and then make the flat colours shaded?
Is it possible in Ps?
I didnot understand that step!!
