Huh I never thought about doing roughs on computer and then printing it out, I should try that out. I always enjoyed doodling on tablets and wishing I could do it on paper with the same feel.

I think it'd be best if you shoed your Layers window on teh side of each picture...because I'm completely lost. What is "masking"? ....=S

I just learned that way, and in my school they taught me to go from value to colour. You can hide things in colour and lose the dynamic by relying on it too much. Any good piece of realistic - ish art will and should stnd up even when you desaturate it to a grey scale.
But, when I colour traditionally i pick my shade colours right off the bat. Computer colouring i separate the process. IF youa re more advanced you can just go straight to it, but i made this method up so that i can revise easier if the client wants difficult changes.
Like, some people use billions of layers, for me i cant tolerate more than 5, not because i am stupid, but i feel that there is always a way to economize it and be efficient.
Must be the German in me.
Everyone has a different approach, so use what works, but that is my reason why i do it that way.

hey thank you so much for the answer. I have some problems when I go from the gray scales to the adjusting for color values , generally i get very saturate colors or don't found the perfect tone for each part of the image. I dont know why it is difficult for me
is something that i dont know?

when you colored...
theres a greyscale shade layer
and a flat color layer...
you added the color tints to the grey scale or the flats??

Wow Omar! That's a fantastic tutorial and I'm very grateful that you both took the time to create it, and have the confidence to share some secrets with us who want your job! Lol.
The one thing I'd love to see is tool settings and layers for each step that you showed a close-up of.
No matter. It's really great that you shared this with us amateurs out here. Best Christmas present....EVER! :-D

Bravo. I love seeing the process that different people go through to create their final pieces; it's wonderful to look at your starting rough image and follow it to the beautiful ending piece.

Proffesor Dogan, I have a question Id like to ask about your method used during the #5. Character Shading. How do you get such a smooth blend from lights to dark that looks like a gradient almost? Its truly beautiful and metallic looking, and while attempting to do it I recognize how difficult it is.

I am not totally familiar with photoshop, but for sure there is a colour blance feature, it would be under the menu bar at the top that says "adjust".
You colour tint the shaded layer depending on the colour you want. Using the flats layer, you can mask what you want to tint. The reason i do it in BW first is so i can make sure the value is right throughout the pic.
Photoshop also has 'Help' file that might be able to help you find it in the there.

so... instead of the shade being black and grey.... u change certain parts to be "tinted" whatever colour is needed.. like the skin you change the greys to a yellow or a red... from the shaded values u did in the beginning.....

Can you still do the same thing if you have Corel Painter instead of Corel Photopaint?

I have a question, hopefully you can elaborate a little on one point. In step 7, the Shade Tinting - is this a Corel Photopaint thing? Tinting grayscales doesn't do anything in photoshop. Gray stays gray in PS pretty much no matter what you do to it. Playing with hue and saturation does nothing and there's no tint command.
Working with grayscale shading would be great I think, but I can't figure out how to do it with PS.
