This actually helps a lot. If not in the coloring, it helps in the more technical area too. Thanks.

OMG Great tutorial. So easy... yet I never would have thought of that... the whole shading thing BRILLIANT! I always wondered how the heck to do that. Now all I need is to get the guts to attempt Photoshop again. Me really lame.... but this will totally help. YOU ROCK!

This is like the best Eid present, thank you!!! Btw, is it all on photoshop? I didn't quite understand the fifth stage >_< Do you colour it with the brush? Afff... I'm total newbie to this!

Omar-Dogan In reply to Zalude [2007-12-24 03:37:55 +0000 UTC]

This is all on Photopaint, which is like Photoshop but better in some respects in my opinion.

As for the colouring on the fifth stage:

Yes i start the clouds with a strong brush with very little opacity, and then just work at it changing to brush to soemthing more gentle for the smaller details. Generally you work form low detail to high detail.

I meant 5.Character shading .... the greyish shades.. how does it work? I hate to burn and dodge everything seperately >_<

I use 3h and it smudges...You've got magic pencils, Omar, magic.

Omar-Dogan In reply to geezone [2007-12-24 02:06:58 +0000 UTC]

Hahah, I meant to say that if anyone likes to use chalkier pencils that that is a method they can use.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

geezone In reply to Omar-Dogan [2007-12-24 02:13:31 +0000 UTC]

Ah. That was one of the reasons why I switched to 3H and even used 4H pencils at one point, but I found that, try as I might, non-photo blue mechanical pencil leads didn't smudge at all. They have no grain whatsoever. It does take a sawbelt to erase them, though, but you don't need to. You just ink or do over them.
If life was a blue pencil lead, I'd over use the do over.

well...having covered all that...how do you draw?!
;-p

nevermind that, just messing...anyway, this is a very...VERY useful tutorial, and it is a very simple & pain-free process--put's alot of your work into perspective.

You have no idea how awesome you are. I thank you very much for showing us some of your techniques. Micron pens eh? I find it hard to find those where I live. Are there any other types of pens that can give the same quality of line?

Arylien In reply to ??? [2007-12-24 01:42:26 +0000 UTC]

wow, and this comes just after asking you if I could paint one of your linearts, haha...

anyways, i see that my way of painting and yours are vastly different in the shading aspect. Eventually we both come to the same conclusion, but, rather than greyscaling the shades, I work with different shades of the "flat" color.

I've always been confused as to how you do the greyscale shading properly. So perhaps for your next tutorial, you could go over the process of actually doing that type of shading?

I think that's where the secret to your artwork lies, as it's fairly straight forward to do lineart and flat colors.

But besides all that, this is awesome! I'm going to spend a bunch of time studying this Thanks a lot Omar!
