I can appreciate where you're coming from, as despite being in the anime and manga fandoms for decades now no series before or since impacted me emotionally as much as Gurren Lagann. Your minimalist rendition of Kamina here is striking in its detail. I think you did a fine job capturing his personality and making it come forth. Nice job.
