Description
Pixie the Dragonfly is (C) *nikkicubArt and Malthak the Spider are (C) WingedHippocampus and is not to be traced, vectored, edited, reposted, dollbased, or used in a YouTube video without asking the artist and getting permission to do so.
Young Pixie trying to defend Malthak from an unseen aggressor, possibly SWATbots but more likely an angry mob. Mal is pretty scary-looking and tends to get violently chased out of places if he's found.
I needed to practice light sources, so I had the moon as primary and the fire as secondary. I did manage to -mostly- avoid the overly fuzzy effect I got the last time I practiced light sources, but a lot of small details ended up obscured nonetheless. Ah well.
I really poured the hours into this one even though the base sketch is about four months old.
Feel free to crit the hell out of it, I need the advice.Hand sketched with a mechanical pencil, colored in GIMP.

*sob* MALTHAK?!?!?! NOOOO! This is heart wrenching, which is a good thing. The black fade along the bottom helps keep the focus on Malthak and Pixie. Pixie's tail also looks amazing. The clouds, moon, horizon and ground also look nice, it's not too distracting from the main image. The crisp white highlights on her body and his legs look nice as well.
On a final note . . . will Malthak and Pixie be alright?

i like this, i would suggest a bit darker on the edges of the fire light to suggest natural shadowing maybe, same with moonlight but wow! i love the spider guy!

It's really hard to pick something to crit. I mean the colors and complexity is over whelming, and the moon lighting is simply amazing! I can tell you took your time with the lighting, the darkness of a night scene and you took your time useing the right highlight colors for the moon. At first the flame seems a bit weak, but it's fine considering the size (came to this conclusion looking at the fire place).
Every thing has a soft apperance, despite the pictures feirce nature. and Everything has a nice rounded and natural feel.

This looks AWESOME. I love the lighting, particularly on Pixie's boots and bracers, and the outlining on her wings looks especially cool. <3 Her tense pose, and the way her wings are angled, also really make her look about to snap forward and deliver some holy hell unto whoever did this, too. >3 I also like how Mal seems almost looking more at her than The Mob - really fits with their relationship, gives him a look almost as worried as pained. Awesomeness.

For the fire lightsource, I'd just make a new layer to draw the outer layer of the flame's reaches, then add a glow over the fire on the main torch-layer. After that, I'd suggest beginning to put harsh orange [[ fire-colored if not ]] lines over the subjects, growing thinner as you reach said line. And as for the moonlight, it looks fine. ^_^
This pic is so ossom. Down to Mal's different blood color, to his... well, his confused, lightly angry expression. You can tell he wants to beat the fuck out of Pixie while being grateful. It's wonderful.

Originally I did have more of a glow but was told it was too much. |D I guess everyone has different thresholds. I'll try brighter next time.

AWESOMENESS SQUARED. First off, this is the most jaw-dropping color job I've seen for any pic ever in AGES. The shading, the linelessness, the details...it's all there. The composition is also great (though I might've suggested a shadow to indicate who Pixie's facing here; she doesn't have pupils, so we can't tell if she's supposed to be looking directly at us or at an unseen attacker, and so one might get the feeling she's the one who attacked Mal, even though, don't worry, you've provided more than enough context clues to make sure that interpretation doesn't bare out), with Pixie's positively ferocious expression and body language contrasting gorgeously with Mal's helpless wounded pose, a fact brought into even sharper relief by their relative sizes. The background's fantastic, too, so rich and full and detailed.

Putting shadows looming over them was actually the original idea, however, I ended up putting both light sources on in such a way that it made no sense for shadows to be reaching into the background from the foreground. And thank you, I worked very hard on this one. :3

Ah, I see. Sensible choice, though perhaps in that case the solution would be giving Pixie artificial "pupils", that is to say centers in her eyes of darker coloring so we can follow her line of sight better.
And I've no doubt of that; it shows, very VERY much. ^_^
