Description
Pixie the Dragonfly is (C) *nikkicubArt and Malthak the Spider are (C) WingedHippocampus and is not to be traced, vectored, edited, reposted, dollbased, or used in a YouTube video without asking the artist and getting permission to do so.
Young Pixie trying to defend Malthak from an unseen aggressor, possibly SWATbots but more likely an angry mob. Mal is pretty scary-looking and tends to get violently chased out of places if he's found.
I needed to practice light sources, so I had the moon as primary and the fire as secondary. I did manage to -mostly- avoid the overly fuzzy effect I got the last time I practiced light sources, but a lot of small details ended up obscured nonetheless. Ah well.
I really poured the hours into this one even though the base sketch is about four months old.
Feel free to crit the hell out of it, I need the advice.Hand sketched with a mechanical pencil, colored in GIMP.
...and now to get those contest prizes done!

Wow, this is really intense. I really, really like it, it brings these two to life. Poor Malthak.
I can't give you any real feedback on the lighting-it looks great at a glance. I guess I might not be feeling the lighting from the torch enough but I'm not sure how to make that stand out on a technical level.

Oh wow. This is really impressive. Poor Malthak! Pixie looks really fierce!
The lighting is good I think. Though the glow from the fire maybe a little too subtle; it's drowned out somewhat by the moonlight.
Regardless, I really like this. It's one of your best digital pieces so far. Well done!

Girl, this is one of most amazing pictures I have ever seen, it really is. When I first saw it I was 100% speechless. I've been like 10 minutes and I still can't seem to find the right words to describe this. I'll do the best I can.
First off, blue blood, that is SO cool! Second, POOR MALTHAK!!!!! I don't think he's scary one bit, I feel so sad for him.

Well sure, Pixie looks scary, he he! A lot of people forget that dragonflies are carnivores, so a Mobian dragonfly would probably have some pretty scary mouthparts to show off.
The fire looks different at the top than at the bottom because it's a brush that I modified, next time I'll try to go all the way with either one or the other.

This is amazing! The expressions, body language, background, as well as the highlights and shadows from the moon all look great. The fire itself also looks perfect, however I think Pixie needs a second shadow falling behind, or beneath, her from the torchlight. The shadow of the pole against her legs suggests that a shadow should lie almost directly beneath her, however the highlight on her face suggests that her shadow could also fall across Malthak behind her. Personally I think the piece is fine as is but a shadow of Pixie falling across Malthak might add to the overall intense feeling of the piece. Just an idea ^^

I like her facial expression, how determined she looks despite being so, well, tiny compared to Malthak. The concept is really sweet, even if the atmosphere gives it a dark feel. ^^

OK, you get something other than stunned staring this time around! *^_^* I was just *so* blown away by this piece last night, it's amazing, and so ... wow.
I repeat, this is absolutely astounding. Absolutely amazing.
Excellent work with the light, with a few minor quibbles. (fire source = light source, obviously, but her boots are dark facing the fire and light on the far side) Other than that, it all works awesome.
The way you did Malthak's blood is incredible. Especially since it's obvious that you did it differently depending on where he has skin and where he has fur. Although I'm a bit confused... previously, his spider-body matched his legs in being all floofy, but here it looks more sleek and carapace-y. Are you changing designs? If so, change it back to floofy! Also, not sure if which 'spots' on his legs are blood, and which are his natural spots, but I think they used to be bigger and more clustered around the bottom... which I also liked. *^_^*
Pixie's body language is AWESOME, and the irony of a bug defending a spider is delicious. I love her wings... her wings are just... *wow*. And the sleek shiny carapace-tail and bug-eyes are lovely. I have no idea how you did fire like that, but the fire's amazing.
Malthak... even hurt like this, he's more worried about Pixie than himself. Love him so much.

Yes, I tried to differentiate bleeding pattern between skin, the shorter, finer fur on his abdomen, and the long, plush fur of his legs. As for teh floof issues, Mal's spider-body has fur but it's short and plush (except on the underside where there's longer fur moving up towards his chest.) Next time I'll try a few jaggy lines here and there to make it clearer that there's still fur there. As for the spots, I COULDN'T REMEMBER HOW I DID THEM LAST TIME. Did I use the airbrush? Fuzzy circle paintbrush? Ink dots and then the blur tool? The sparks brush? I couldn't get them to look the same as last time, you'd think something so simple wouldn't be so hard to replicate. I need to start writing down what I do. Dx
The fire is actually a brush. The top part, anyway. The problem with brushes is I haven't figure out how to make them multiple colors, so I had to construct the lower half of the flame myself using blended ink at a certain opacity.
And thanks, the body language and expressions and such were what inspired me to take it from a sketch to a full-blown piece, you know how much I love stuff like that. x3

This is amazing!
Everything from the lighting to the poses looks outstanding! Pixie looks like she's gonna whoop some serious buttocks, you can see it in both her face and pose~ and I love the shadows and lighting that comes from the fire. It's a great picture, the smaller, less fearless looking Pixie protecting big ol' Malthak

O_o Wow. That looks really good, seriously. Pixie's rage and Malthaks pain are displayed really well. I like the blue blood too, nice touch.
My only problem is that the shadows of the torch aren't as prominent as they should be. Fires create REALLY detailed and prominent shadows, y'know? Other than that, it looks incredible.
