Description
Jason Todd has pursued the assassin Red X deep into Umbrella's new facility where they are boosting the effect of of the Animus Machine. Jason goes after Red X after fleeing a scene where he could've killed Hit-girl but didn't. He finds him in a simulation buffer and talks him down from going further into his psyche, convinced he can still come back from where he was.

Jason Todd murders criminals and loses his cool almost all the time. He also is self-righteous. Believes he's the good guy.
Red X is pretty much smooth all the time and never loses his cool. He's a theif and is fully aware that he cares about only himself.

At times i wonder if the self righteousness is simply to get in the craw of those who he considers self righteous themselves? (Bruce, Dick, Tim, the justice-er than thou art crowd)

Dick is one of the few "good" guys that doesn't come off as self-righteous. Mainly because he never looks down on others. Not even Jason and Damian.
Bruce... sorta. Yeah. Tim. Hell yeah.
Jason's self-righteousness was very genuine mainly because at the end of the day he'd be the one getting mad when the others reject his color of morality.
Still bad-ass though.

Jason looked down on Damian but doesn't have any hard feelings towards him. Just thinks he's an annoying little kid... like everyone else in the franchise did.

Jason never could look down on Nightwing because he the Thor to his Loki. The Mufasa to his Scar. And so on.
In other words, Jason has some serious resentment towards Dick for being "the best" at everything. Or at least he did until the new 52 decided to make him... nice?

As for the new 52, they missed a golden opportunity with the guy , and went 100% to one extreme.

I mean Jason's a dick, no two ways about it, but he's not 90% ass hole, it just never really gets to the see the light of day because of the compulsion the writers have to make anyone who kills criminals instead of rounding them up effing psycho's cause there is no middle ground in Batman's Gotham.
Jason could be the straight up Punisher of DC if they did it right but what fun is it without his daddy-issue stricken, egostistic, psychoticly dark grey moral self right?

With Jason, I liked the idea that while it was obvious that he wasn't mentally stable, he still could pull it off as a badass. In Under the Hood, he came up with a very well played convoluted plot but at the same time showed that he was indeed becoming a sadistic killer (seeing as he stabbed people and taunted them as he did so).
When he slipped into full blown craziness in Battle for the Cowl, I was okay with it because I could understand he was in a confused state there.
However, then the Grant Morrison run on the new Batman and Robin made Jason just... weird. So I was a little upset.
Then New 52 came and I was getting all happy about Jason finally getting his own franchise. I was looking forward to something similar to Lost Days or Under the Hood. However, what I got was suddenly "sad" Jason and "nice guy" Jason. Which made me lose interest real fast.
The New 52 seemed to make it it's goal to make all the characters more gritty and less nice and darker (even Billy Batson for crying out loud) but for some strange reason, they decided to make Jason the lightest character of them all? I mean, WHAT?!

I'm very skeptical of how they handle Billy, and I do NOT like Justice League WAR.
That being said , making Jason the lightest one was asinine. I wanted to see what a toned , focused Jason Todd would be like, especially if he wanted to be a world purging leader of a team for that cause.
I mean him talking to other characters and being the one to talk sense into them, and the fact that it was Todd would've made my day cause i know he has the potential if they'd just let him use it for pete sakes!
But nope, it's one extreme or the other.

If I had to choose between evil Jason and light Jason I'd still choose evil Jason. Because at least that one could actually come off as intimidating. Which is what the Red Hood is supposed to be.

Agreed, I just know that the inbetween Jason who isn't totally wrong is possible and would be a great character, but god forbid you make the lawful good characters look bad
