You know, I think I rather like it too. The use of negative space, as has been noted, is quite good, but I also like that the negative space is broken up by that white reflection/highlight--it keeps the empty area of being boring. Putting the subject up in the top corner fits nicely into the rule of thirds, and makes for a more interesting image, visually. Finally, I like the desaturation and the fact that much of the subject is out of frame--it brings art to an ordinary object my breaking it up and making it seem almost surreal. For someone new to photography, you seem to have a pretty good gut sense as to what you're doing.
