Description
An entry for the Stone mini-contest in the Creature-Lovers' group.[link]
Daonic theme.
12x10 inches, gouache, ink and pencil on Bristol board.
Said to be born from the stones of Da'oken plains, Retan are huge herbivorous insects occasionally colonized by the Faithful kinsmen.
""Well," Said Nghi, to this indignant,
"Ulo's gone, we can do little.."
Would have spoken even further
But the ground began to rumble
From the distance of the steppes,
Those mounds they've been seeing
Came to movement, grass breaking
Sending dust towards the horizon
"Here's solution to our problem,"
Sighed relief now loyal Elrin
"He can run, but we'll run faster!"
So cried out he, and whistled.
Trill melodic over planes flew
Causing stir among the gaggle,
Single great gray separated
Changed its ponderous momentum
"Here's our ticket!" Told the squire
To the Forgers' fearful daughter
"Gentle giants, lead by drivers
From whom my folks once descended,
Called Jott'en in tongue of Feathered
Called Retan in tongue of ours
Crystal beasts of Gaenor's making
Stone hills of wide Da'oken!""
The references are an elephant, the rhinoceros beetle, and a geode.. respectively. :3

I don't know what to say, that is just... just... an... amazing piece of art.

That's an impressive beast! The fact that it disappears over the horizon (and the figure) really gives a sense of scale. The merging of the different coloured elements is also pretty cool. I like the elephant legs--they give a nice sense of realism. I would've liked to see a bit more scenery, but the image is great even without that. Thanks for sharing!

Now imagine a herd of those with a little town on their backs. ;D
Thanks. I really -should- do more contests for groups.. they give additional encouragement to doing stuff for that darn Daon project.

Participate, I think.. XD Dictionary.com is your frieeeend. (Totally feel for you, though. English isn't my first language, either.)
As for ideas.. you could always think of all the things associated with paper. :3 Off the top of my head, origami, bookworms, and paper money.

What is your first language then? ;3
Hm, I actually came up with the japanese myth about a boy drawing stuff with ink on a big paper roll thingy and the drawings come to life... but that is more ink then paper after all...
And the ideas you had are good, didn't thought of origami, I guess there's much room for ideas, but I don't have any for the moment. Not a problem too! I can get to my stuff this week and maybe I'll be joining next week ^^

Russian. As stated in the profile, "The Blunt Russian". 8D
Replace the boy drawing things with the boy cutting things out of paper, and you're good. >:3 Looking forward to seeing your stuff next week, regardless!

I love the fact that you show size difference with the male character standing beside the creature. It show's how massive it could actually be. Awesome work with the ink and the gouache! From everything I've soon I'd have to say that this is definatly your medium!

It is indeed a common trick, but it is also a very useful one!
