When I resize the canvas, the drawing changes too, How can I fix that?

onisuu In reply to PandaAttack30 [2015-10-16 00:00:54 +0000 UTC]
It is supposed to resize the image when you change the resolution. I try to keep the sketch simple and not too big to begin with (500*500 pixels or smaller) so when it shrinks, it still has definition to it
if you just want to resize the canvas but not the drawing, go to Canvas > resize/change canvas size

How do you make the eyes look so smooth? ; o ; When I make pixels the eyes turn out so ugly and horrible! ><

onisuu In reply to JelloBearr [2015-08-09 01:25:56 +0000 UTC]
Try to keep the shape of the eyes round/pointy (however you stylize eyes) but make it even (so the shape gradually changes for curves and sharply goes to points for eye lashes etc
Choosing colours for the eyes: the more colours you use the smoother it will look as you blend the iris colours with darker shadows in the eye

wouldnt you want to resize it after you do lineart?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
onisuu In reply to Yellow-Sarah [2015-08-09 01:22:48 +0000 UTC]
No because your nice pixel lineart will become blurry so there is no point doing the lineart before resizing

youre right. i just zoomed in a bit after resizing. can you tell me how to make it transparent please?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
onisuu In reply to Yellow-Sarah [2015-08-09 02:54:56 +0000 UTC]
I went to file > export and chose the option with opacity (this way it saves it as a flat image with transparency)

Yellow-Sarah In reply to onisuu [2015-08-09 05:33:09 +0000 UTC]
what option has opacity? for me it just shows file>export as > png, jpeg, bitmap, sai, photoshop, targa

Yellow-Sarah In reply to onisuu [2015-08-09 15:25:24 +0000 UTC]
i saved a png and the little box popped up and i clicked the bottom one that said pixel opacity and it still has a white background

Hmm that's strange, have you tried selecting all the 'empty space' when the image is one layer and deleting it (just in case it was filled with white/colour? And then export it again as .png with opacity ^^

I have a hard time grasping where to place pixels. Any tips for making it look right?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
onisuu In reply to NargateSada [2015-07-29 08:21:03 +0000 UTC]
it helps if you make a sketch first! then do the rough lineart and then flat base colours. Add shading, and then you can play around with positioning the pixels as you shade and you can add in-between colours to soften the look of edges.

this probably sounds weird, but where did you download the binary tool? or what are the settings for it? i can't seem to find it on my version, which is 1.2 and i can't find the settings anywhere.

In some versions of SAI it's called Legacy pen

onisuu In reply to ghost-nope [2015-07-20 16:39:20 +0000 UTC]
oh that's strange! It was just included in my tool set when I got SAI *o *
You can try to create a new brush -- right click on a grey/empty block in the tool box, and select Pencil

This helped so much!
I couldn't figure out why when I attempted pixels I could never get the single pixel tool.
Now I realize it's binary pen...my bad xD
Thank you for the tutorial!

Ahh sorry, I have never used that program so I'm not sure! If it has a pencil brush, maybe that works! Basically, try all the brushes you do have and see if any of them can draw single pixels

if you shrink a drawing, it'll become pixelly every time unfortunately *o * it's caused by how the program has to crush the image into a smaller canvas XD
I shrink my initial sketch so I can redraw it at the smaller size to minimize pixelliness
the only way for a image to not become blurry/pixelly at a smaller size is if it was made with vectors

I've been fighting with these goddamn pixels for too long... ;__; Sometimes they seem so easy and other times I can't get anything done... I was getting too annoyed and started doing something else.
But I shall try later! I will not give up!

The 'change resolution' setting is kinda annoying
whenever I change it to my desired resolution the bottom/top changes (I changed it to 'pixel')
its kinda useless for me then ;3;

onisuu In reply to EcofriendlyNotebook [2015-05-01 16:42:11 +0000 UTC]
Ah it is because it is keeping the proportions consistent, so your picture doesn't squish vertically or horizontally.
If you just wanted to change the SIZE of the canvas, you need to go to "Change Size" and then adjust those width/length settings
