Description

Explanation:

In the world of Warhammer Fantasy, the Dwarf Runesmiths believe spellcasting to be inherently unsafe. (For good reason, considering what magic in Warhammer is capable of).

Instead of casting spells, the Runesmiths inscribe runes on weapons, armor and various other items to bind and hold the energies from the Winds of Magic. This process has created some of the most powerful magic weaponry known in the world.

It's not easy though, as the activation of a rune also requires highly detailed and specific rituals. For example, Master Rune of Swiftness must be slaked in quicksilver and to apply the Master Rune of Gromril requires purest metals and months of non-stop hammering in exact rhythm - missing a single strike can diffuse its power.

There are also a few rules to the Dwarf Rune Magic:

Rule of Three - A single magical item can't have more than three runes. It is virtually impossible* to forge items whose materials are able to bear the strain of carrying such large amounts of magical power.

Rule of Form - The correct type of rune must be used depending on the rune item being created. Weapon runes can only be inscribed on weapons, armor runes can only be inscribed on armor, banner runes can only be inscribed on standards, engineering runes can only be inscribed on war machines, and talismanic runes can only be inscribed on talismans.

Rule of Pride - No more than one item may carry the same combination of runes. This restriction also applies to the use of single runes. Creating runic items takes a great deal of effort, and the Runesmiths don't like repeating themselves. They will never copy the work of another Runesmith either, other than during their apprenticeship.

Rule of Master Rune - No master rune may be used on more than one item per army, and no more than one master rune can be inscribed on an item. Master runes are so powerful that they cannot be combined together on the same item or used together on the same battlefield. For this reason, Runesmiths describe these runes as "Jealous Runes."

* There are some exceptions to this rule. For instance, the titular Warhammer, Ghal Maraz is stated to have four or five magical runes. However, many of the greatest Runelords of the Dwarfs are long dead. As a result, a great deal of the magic runes and knowledge of runeforging has tragically been lost to the ages forever.

Place any character you'd want to be able to use rune magic. (Does not necessarily have to be a Dwarf, though.)

Anyone is free to use this blank meme template, provided they credit me accordingly whenever doing so. (Though this time, you should give credit to Mask-of-Vice as well).
