Description "Art and Science could walk together hand-in-hand" - Horacio Pagani, quoting Leonardo Da Vinci.

Soleus, is the product of what i came up when i became a complete, free-form in mechanical design. No boundaries, no limitation by realism. It's my result when i want a mecha that is completely new and fresh - from all the typical realistic mecha concepts. A mecha that i want to own in real-life.

Originally called Solus - the current's name anagram and Latin for "Only" - it's a very personal original mecha design that i've been revising since 2011. A mecha mascot of mine. At sometime, it went a couple hiatuses for months-years after the concept wasn't clear that it didn't got me interested anymore. Until in 2012, where i became obsessed with Itallian car company, Pagani Automobilli, it's car Pagani Huayra, and the one who made it (and the quote above), Horacio Pagani. For those who are unaware of him, this man is nicknamed "Renaissance Man" or "Da Vinci of the Modern Day". He's a big idol and hero of mine, and he (and the car, Huayra) was the major/biggest influence and inspiration for me inspired to continue and do Soleus' "project Revision" in 2014. (see here WIP Dairy 02-1: Soleus 'Revision' )

Revision is basically like a "redesign round". Unlike before i went to this round, i named the project because i had a completely different and very clear goal than before. The only goal they share is it had to be very unique. The goal and concept this time is by following what i like. Like Horacio's, it's Art and Science. With that, i made and stick by the sentence, "A mecha that belongs in a Museum Art Gallery". Basically deconstruction of how a mecha can look like. Repeating from the first paragraph, it had to be free-form design, completely fresh, no boundaries, no limitation by realism. And like Horacio's principle, every single piece have to be a piece of art. With this in mind, i immediately had a vision it had to be very sculpture-like, where the highlights reveal the curvature of the shapes, with gaps of hollow showing mechanical frames inside it. And since i was a big fan of it, i take most of the major reference and inspiration from Pagani Huayra.

I also wanted to implement something of my country's most familiar elements of culture to the design (like how the Japanese often uses Samurai/Oni theme in designs, etc), since i feel that is lacking and not many has done that in my country, and i want to see how it looks like when i implemented it. One of it being the head is shaped after the general head shapes of Wayang Kulit (Indonesian's Shadow Puppets), the other being - and the most recognizeable one, is the alternate form, a.k.a. Masked Mode.

And finally, after years of delay and months of revising again and again, it is finished! I've never been satisfied-relieved-happy-excited about any finished design like Soleus did. And to be honest, even though i envision all that idea it didn't really occurred to me on how exotic, elegant, and exquisite it's going to look like. It got the same chilling-excited vibe like everytime i look at the Huayra. Well..... that's what i think. But i really hope you guys like it as i do!
