One of the ideas I had was to make Flash Magnus the most cowardly of the legion, all bark and no bite up until his closest companion Albus (the pale pegasus he's shown flying with), is snatched up by Torch and his roommate. Maybe he was one of those late bloomers with no cutiemark yet, so he compensated for being a blank flank with a lot of bravado. His whole deal would be learning that bravery isn't about not being scared, it's about acting in spite of fear. Bonus points if he gets his cutiemark after using Netitus.

Flash's bronze-colored armor was crafted after his squadron's encounter with the dragons. Before that, he was wearing the ordinary cadet getup.

Netitus, the legendary fireproof shield, has many conflicting origins. Some say it fell from the sky as a burning comet, others say it's a golden scale of the first Dragon Lord, and there are even whispers about it being the creation of a wayward alicorn Princess of Fire. Whatever its origins are, Flash Magnus has cemented himself as the most famous of its wielders, and the shield has become inextricably linked with his own story.

Flash Sentry, as Flash Magnus' closest living descendant, would be the one rightfully in possession of Netitus had Magnus not returned from Limbo. It was considered a family heirloom up until one generation lost it in the dragon lands.

Netitus is armed to the teeth with abjuration charms. Upon Meadowbrook's appraisal, it turns out the shield's ability to absorb and redirect dragon fire is a natural property of the unknown metal it's crafted from, on top of being light enough to fly with but hard enough to fend off the harshest of attacks. With some training from the more magically inclined members of the Pillars, Flash Magnus can project a party-wide barrier using Netitus.

Flash Magnus is the youngest of the Pillars, just a bit older than Starswirl's own apprentice. He calls him gramps.
