"Not so fast!" James shouted, stopping her with a hand.

"I was just kidding," Scarlet replied. "We'll walk."

They made their way to a small apartment building. Scarlet reached down to open a basement door when a woman stumbled out from a door above.

"Hold it right there, Scarlet!" the woman called. Scarlet turned to the woman, she was middle-aged with a smudged face and salt and pepper hair.

"What is this?" the woman demanded, holding out three empty beer bottles.

"Empty bottles, Ms. Foten," Scarlet replied.

"I will not tolerate this, Scarlet. You don't even live here and you treat it like it was an animal pin," Ms. Foten said, then shoved the beer bottles into Scarlet's abdomen. "Get rid of these!"
