Description
This one had its theatrical and YouTube release a little more than a month ago, though due to some issues with the video uploading it took a while to get here.Anyway, this is a film I developed as part of an experimental class who worked with a producer Brian McCormack, to develop a music video for the album "Apathia" by Aunt Ange. The album itself is a concept album which follows a single story combining Tarot symbolism with contemporary allegory. It chronicles the faceless Fool as he searches for his lost heart through a surreal land where emotions have been lost.
Working as a team, we developed an 80 minute animatic that illustrated an entire feature length story, but ultimately decided to bring to full animation the climactic track, "Raining Ashes", as a standalone music video, as this track's story serves as a microcosm of the whole album's narrative. The resulting video was created over a span of around 6 months.
The film uses cel animated drawings with 3D CG backgrounds, as well as some additional tricks with digital ink and paint effects and 3D rotoscoping to create some of the shots. I was the director and art director on the film, and designed the CG backgrounds as well as handling editing and effects. I was fortunate enough to work with some very talented animators who did a colossal amount of drawings to see this project to fruition.
The final film was screened at the Three Rivers Film Festival in Pittsburgh, PA on November 18-19th, 2009, and with the permission of the band I have made it available for streaming online. It can also be found on YouTube and Vimeo.

Wow. That was extremely amazing! The style is very original, and went along well with the song. There were some moments where I was confused, but it fell together nicely to make sense. Well done!

Thanks, that is good to know, it is something we worried about a lot during production; since it was cut down from an 80 minutes story.

Ah, thanks much although I can't take credit personally for the singing or the animation.
