Description
"Ugh, this is so boring," moaned Megumin, as she trudged through the quiet, peaceful forest. "Why couldn't you have taken a quest with a terrifyingly powerful monster, or something? I need to destroy something with my explosion magic!"
"Just relax," said Kazuma, shrugging as he walked beside her. "Why risk your life when you can make easier money on a gathering quest? Just focus on finding those mushrooms and you can blow up a boulder or something on the way home."
"Ooh, I think I found it!" said Megumin, her eyes sparkling as she suddenly swerved into a nearby clearing.
"What is it?" said Kazuma, running after her. "The mushrooms?"
"What? No not some stupid fungus. Look, something I can blow up!" The girl excitedly thrust her staff at a large, moss-covered lump in the middle of the clearing and began to chant. "Darkness blacker than black and darker than dark-"
"Hey, stop!" said Kazuma, cutting her off. "How am I supposed to finish this stupid quest if I have to carry you around the rest of the day?"
"Hmph, you're no fun," said Megumin, lowering her staff with a pout.
"What is this thing, anyway?" said Kazuma, approaching the cuboid, green-covered shape. Tentatively, he reached out and began to scrape the moss off, letting out a gasp of suprise when he revealed a keyhole.
"A treasure chest!" he said, excitedly scraping the lichen from the box's stone surface. "What do you think is in here? Valuable jewels? Enough gold that I can live like a lazy bum for the rest of my life? ...A bunch of used panties belonging to beautiful princesses...!?"
"Ugh, this guy..." muttered Megumin, to herself, before stepping towards the chest, her staff lifted into the air. "We'll find out what's in there as soon as I blow it open with my almighty explosion magic! Oh blackess shrouded in light-"
"Wait, stop!" shouted Kazuma. "You'll vapourise whatever treasure's inside! I'll just use my steal skill on it."
"Hmph, you're still no fun," said Megumin, pouting again as she watched her fellow party member thrust his fist towards the box, a flash of light appearing as he used the skill. What appeared in his hand wasn't gold, or jewels, or even a pair of panties, though. It was a piece of paper, tied up with a pink ribbon.
"Is that... a magic scroll?" said Megumin, with a gasp. "Quickly, open it! It might hold the secret to making my explosions even more devastating!"
"I kinda doubt that..." said Kazuma, as he untied the ribbon and opened the scroll, his eyes widening as he read what was written inside. It was far more exciting than something about explosion enhancements.
"Hold this scroll and focus on your target as you speak the words below," he read, silent except for his suddenly-heavier breathing. "And they will forever become as a plaything, unable to ever again refuse any command given to them by human lips." A submission skill? This was too good to be true! Just think of all the fun he could have if he used this on a girl! And there was one right here... He looked up at the mage standing in front of him, watching him eagerly, and a lecherous smirk twitched at the corners of his mouth. She was kind of flat, but she'd certainly work as a test...
He stared at her, dirty thoughts dancing through his mind and gulped, before reciting the two words written in pink lettering on the roll of paper, "Servus mechanica!"
No sooner had he spoken the syllables than Megumin's entire body was engulfed in a blinding, pink flash. Garish light bursting from her skin, swallowing the dark-haired girl's entire being before she even had time to scream, flaring brighter and brighter until she seemed to be at the centre of a pink explosion...
...And then it stopped. Megumin stood there in a confused daze, her vision still obscured by a sea of pink spots. Just what had Kazuma tried to do to her with that scroll? What were those words he said? What was that pink flash? Why did she feel so strange? So solid, inflexible and... heavy. As if every part of her body had suddenly been encased in stone, or metal, or something... And why did she suddenly feel so cold and exposed, as if all her clothes had just vanished into thin air besides a few accessories like her hat and cape which seemed to be attached too well to her body... Was that Kazuma's perverted plan? Had he found a spell that stripped innocent girls of their clothing!? Ugh, that guy! She should use her explosion magic on him!
...But she must have dropped her staff in the surprise of that pink flash because she definitely wasn't holding it anymore. Thoughts of explosive vengeance in mind for this humilation, she tried to bend down and pick it up, but failed when she realised that she couldn't bend down. Wore than that, she couldn't move at all. No matter how she struggled, she couldn't budge any part of herself a single inch. Her feet stayed rooted to the ground and her oddly heavy-feeling arms lay dangling helplessly at her sides. What was going on!? Had his spell stripped her and paralysed her, so she'd be powerless to resist when the perv had his wicked way with her!? She tried to shout at Kazuma to stop this, to reverse whatever skill he'd used, but found, to her horror, that she couldn't do that either. The only sound she produced was the slight, constant whirring that vibrated unbidden, almost silently within her chest...
Something was wrong. Very wrong. She couldn't move or speak and she was whirring. People didn't whirr! What had Kazuma done to her!? The girl-who-hoped-she-was-still-a-girl looked around in a panic, only panicking herself more when she saw that the trees around her seemed to have shrunk. Or maybe she'd gotten taller...? That was it. As frightened as she was to find out, she needed to know what had happened to her. So, nervously, she looked down, lowering her gaze as much as her newfound lack of animation would allow to take a look at herself...
She wanted to let out a shriek of shock at what she saw. It wasn't the slight, petite body of a human girl she was used to. It wasn't the body of a human at all. Instead of her flesh-and-blood form, all she could see was metal. Sleek, hardened steel, coloured like her former clothes, glittering in the sunlight shining down on the forest clearing, shaped into a vaguely-feminine, human-ish form. That was why she felt cold; not because her clothes had gone, but because she no longer had warm blood pumping through her vanished veins. That was why she felt stiff and heavy; because her entire being had been replaced by inflexible, tempered metal. That was why she was whirring; it was the machinery that had replaced her organs, sending electricity coursing though her unseen new wires and keeping her now-mechanical self operational. She'd transformed into a robot!
The new robot screamed silently inside her now-metallic mind. What was going on!? Why had she turned into a machine? And, if she had to be a robot, why couldn't she move? What was the point in an inanimate automaton? She could feel the electricity inside her, powering her systems, but to what end? Why would she need to be powered now that she was essentially a large, metal statue? Why had Kazuma done this to her? What had she ever done to deserve being trapped in an unmoving, mechanical body? She had to turn back! ...She'd be able to turn back, right? She'd lose her mind if she was stuck as an unmoving, girl-shaped lump of steel for much longer!
"Um... Megumin?" said Kazuma, snapping the transformed-girl out of her panicked stream of thoughts. "Are you in there?"
The girl-turned-robot looked down at the guy she'd so recently been shorter than, but was now significantly taller than (she must have been at least eight feet in this unwanted new body, she assumed), wanting to shout at him as he rapped his knuckles against the cold steel of her now-robotic chest, sending uncomfortable vibrations echoing through her heavy outer casing. I'm not in the robot, you idiot! she wanted to shout. I am the robot! You did this to me, so now you have to fix it! ...But she couldn't say any of those things. She could only stand there in inanimate silence as the guy stared at her transformed body in bewilderment.
"I... wasn't expecting this to happen," he said, eventually. "Sorry, Megumin. Are you okay? Can you still move and stuff?"
He was only answered by silence, completely unable to hear the internal shouts of the former-girl insisting that an apology for turning her into an inert automaton was nowhere near good enough.
"Oh, come on, don't just ignore me because I turned you into a robot!" said Kazuma. "I told you it was an accident! Come on, Megumin, say something!"
"SOMETHING." The new robot was just as surprised as Kazuma to hear a compressed-sounding, robotic version of her formerly-human voice coming out from beneath her new mouthplate, feeling the speaker she must now have had in place of a voicebox vibrating as it produced the word. Why had she said "something"? She hadn't meant to. She'd intended to threaten him with explosion magic if he didn't turn her back in the next five minutes. She'd spoken again, but without any input from her mind...
"Oh, very funny, robo-girl," said Kazuma. "Come on, I really am sorry. Say something else, Megumin!"
"SOMETHING ELSE." This was frightening now. Why was her body acting on its own, when she couldn't make a sound no matter how hard she tried? Was her machinery just reacting to Kazuma's verbal prompts? Was that all she was now? A volitionless object that could do nothing but mindlessly repeat whatever she was told to say?
"Hmm," said Kazuma, looking up at the new robot thoughtfully. "...Megumin, say Kazuma is the hottest guy in the universe."
"KAZUMA IS THE HOTTEST GUY IN THE UNIVERSE." This was just getting worse and worse! Not only could she only say what Kazuma told her to, but now she was forced to embarrass herself! If metal could blush, she'd have been burning up...
"Huh, so you're not just being difficult," said Kazuma, his arms folded. "You're just saying the words I've told you to... Maybe if I... Megumin, speak for yourself!"
"I CAN'T SPEAK FOR MYSELF!" snapped the former-girl in her computerised voice. "I CAN'T DO ANYTHING! I'M JUST A HELPLESS PIECE OF- HUH? I'M... TALKING? FOR REAL?"
"So it worked!" said Kazuma, grinning up at the transformed-girl. "The scroll said the target wouldn't be able to refuse any command from a human, so I guess you were in some sort of standby mode until I ordered you to speak."
"I DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO BE ORDERED TO SPEAK!" shouted the still-unmoving new robot. "I DON'T WANT TO HAVE A STANDBY MODE! WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO ME!?"
"It was an accident, I already told you that twice!" said Kazuma, backing away slightly from the girl-turned-machine. "I thought it was just a submission skill, something that would make you unable to say no when I told you to do something. ...I guess that part worked, but I didn't know it would turn you into a robot! I just wanted to make you give me your panties, honest!"
"THAT'S NOT MUCH BETTER..." said the new robot, with a mechanical sigh. "ANYWAY, I DON'T HAVE ANY PANTIES ANYMORE, THANKS TO YOU. I CAN'T EVEN MOVE ANYMORE!"
"Wait, you can't move either?" said Kazuma. "Maybe this will work? Megumin, move freely."
Suddenly, the whirring in the formerly-human robot's body intensified as internal parts she didn't know she had began to fire up. Slowly, worried about not having full control over her newly-mechanical body, she lifted her arm, her now-robotic limb creaking slightly as it moved. She didn't have the free movement she'd had as a human, her stiff metal arm only able to bend to a very limited degree, but she could move! After being inanimate, it felt incredible, even if it was just stilted, robotic movement. In her excitement, the former-girl waved her arms through the air, waggling her not-fully-dextrous fingers, shook her head on the socket which had replaced her neck and took a few tentative steps, her newly-heavy feet crashing loudly into the floor as she did so. This was so liberating after being stuck like a statue! Yes, she moved a little jerkily, but with time she was sure she'd get used to it and- Wait. She didn't want to get used to it. Even if she could move and talk now, she was still a huge, clanking robot. A robot that was completely in Kazuma's power. All he had to do was say the word and she'd be stuck as a silent, unmoving metal shape again, with no way to reactivate her own autonomy...
"KAZUMA," she said, turning towards the male of her former species. "YOU HAVE TO TURN ME BACK! I WANT TO BE ME AGAIN! THIS IS YOUR FAULT! YOU HAVE TO REVERSE THIS!"
"Um, yeah," said Kazuma, nervously. "About turning you back..."
But before he could continue, two still-human girls entered the clearing, waving at him and carrying a bulging sack of mushrooms each.
"Hey, Kazuma!" said Aqua. "We found loads of those mushrooms in another clearing, so lets go back and collect our meagre reward! You weren't around when we found them so I think it's only fair you give me your share and- Huh!? Wh-what's that giant robot? Get away before it crushes you!"
"Don't worry, I'll take the bone-crushing blow for you!" said Darkness, darting in front of Kazuma and standing in front of the transformed-girl, her arms held wide and a trail of drool dangling from the corner of her smiling mouth.
"I'M NOT GOING TO CRUSH ANYONE," said the former-girl. "IT'S ME, MEGUMIN. THAT STUPID PERVERT TURNED ME INTO THIS!"
"M-megumin?" said Aqua. "Is that really you? You're so big and shiny now I didn't recognise you!"
"So... does this mean my bones aren't going to be crushed?" said Darkness, her voice laden with disappointment.
"Th-that's not important!" said Aqua. "Megumin's a killer robot now! How did this happen!?"
"This scroll I found," said Kazuma. "I used it on her, but I didn't know that it was a spell to turn people into robots..."
"You used a weird scroll on Megumin?" said Aqua. "What were you thinking?"
"HE WAS TRYING TO GET ME TO TAKE OFF MY PANTIES," said the new robot.
"Ugh, you're unbelievable," said Aqua. "Anyway, why have you left her like this? Why don't you just use the reversal spell?"
"Yeah, I was just about to tell her about that..." said Kazuma, gulping nervously. "See, the thing is... There isn't one. The only spell written on here is the one that did this. It even says the effects will last forever..."
"FOREVER!?" screeched the girl-turned-machine with a digital wail. "YOU MEAN I'M STUCK LIKE THIS!? NO, I CAN'T BE! AQUA, YOU'VE GOT SOME HEALING POWERS, RIGHT? THERE HAS TO BE SOMETHING YOU CAN DO!"
"Um, sorry, but... turning girls who transformed into giant robots back into girls is a little out of my repertoire," said Aqua. "I don't think that's in anyone's repertoire..."
"BUT... THAT MEANS... IT'S HOPELESS?" said the now-robot girl. "I'M GOING TO BE STUCK LIKE THIS FOREVER? UNTIL THE DAY I... RUST?" She looked down at her robotic hands in renewed horror. Was this really it? Would her entire body never again be made of anything but metal and internal wiring? How was she supposed to live as a massive robot? She'd never be able to eat or drink again with a speaker instead of a mouth. She'd never be able to fit through the door of a building without smashing through the frame. What if she rusted up or broke down? Would she need to go to a mechanic instead of a doctor? How was she supposed to keep herself powered? Could she still sleep, or would someone have to command her to enter sleep mode, leaving her helplessly shut down, hoping that they'd remember to wake her up again in the morning? This was all so confusing! She knew how to be a human, but that had all been taken away from her! She was nothing but a machine now, not even able to take off her hat, cape or choker because they were solid pieces of metal, welded onto the rest of her steel frame. Her life was ruined and it was all Kazuma's fault!
"WHY DID YOU USE THAT STUPID SPELL?" she shouted, discovering that as a robot she was no longer able to cry. "I'LL GET YOU BACK FOR THIS! I'LL OBLITERATE YOU WITH MY MOST POWERFUL EXPLOSION EVER...!"
And then it struck her. She was a robot now, not a mage. The spell she'd put so much love and effort into cultivating, pouring every skill point she'd ever earned into powering it up, was gone. Automatons like the one she'd become couldn't use magic, or any human skills. She'd never cast explosion magic again! Suddenly, much more than before, she felt like weeping her now-digital eyes out. If she couldn't use explosion magic what was the point of existing? What was the point of a world where she couldn't decimate anything with all-consuming eruptions of flame? She was already feeling agitated at not having blown anything up since yesterday... how would she feel tomorrow, or the day or after that, or the year after that? It didn't bear thinking about, but it was exactly what was going to happen...
"YOU TOOK AWAY MY EXPLOSIONS!" the new robot screeched. "I'M GOING TO DESTROY YOU!"
The girl-turned-robot clenched her fists as much as her rigid, metal fingers would allow and charged at Kazuma, her heavy steel feet causing the ground to quake with every step. The adventurer screamed and ducked behind Darkness, who looked up at the encroaching former-girl with a sense of fevered anticipation.
"Megumin, stop!" shouted Kazuma and, entirely against the new robot's will, she did. Her internal mechanisms shut down and she froze, rooted to the ground and once again utterly unable to even lift a finger. She tried to scream at him to let her move again, but it wasn't just her movement that had stopped, her speaker had shut down as well.
"Huh?" said Darkness, looking up at the mechanical-girl's inert form in disappointment. "How come she just stopped like that?"
"Because of what she is now," said Kazuma, breathing a sigh of relief. "She's a robot which automatically follows orders from humans, whether she wants to or not. She's probably desperately trying to shout and attack me in there..."
"Really...?" said Darkness. "I think I should find out just how pulverising her metal limbs are, for safety purposes you know? Megumin, attack me with all your might!"
Suddenly, the girl-turned-robot found her unwanted mechanical body moving of its own will, her metallic arm pulling backwards and swinging at the still-human girl in front of her with all her cybernetic might. She felt the crunch of the crusader's breastplate as it shattered beneath her steel fist and the warm, springy cushion of her bosoms flailing from the impact before she was launched through the air into a nearby tree. The transformed-girl silently screamed at herself to stop, but she was powerless to control her own body, her consciousness nothing but an unwitting passenger as she ran, thumping the earth, towards the heavily panting blonde-girl, pulling her arm back for another punch and dreading having to feel her breasts again...
"Megumin, stop that!" said Aqua and, to the new robot's relief, she did. Her arm fell limply to her side and she stood once locked into inanimate standby once again.
"Darkness, that's no way to treat our transformed-friend!" said Aqua, lifting the crusader's discarded sack of mushrooms and approaching the unmoving form of the former-girl. "I mean, we've got a giant robot in our party now! One who'll do any chore we want without being able to complain! I've got a much better use for her! Megumin, carry these sacks back to guild for us."
The robot-which-had-been-Megumin wanted to tell her no. That she was a person and wouldn't be used as some kind of mechanical slave. ...But she wasn't a person anymore. She was a robot who'd been given an order. An order which her body was already complying with, the former-girl only able to watch as she took the sacks from the non-transformed girl, grasping them in her metallic hands as she began to walk back through the forest, terrifyingly unaware of where she was going, stepping through the undergrowth with no control over her own direction, not even able to complain because her speech mode hadn't been reactivated.
"Heheh, I kinda like her this way," said Aqua, as the three other party members followed behind their now-robot friend. "We can make her do all kinds of useful stuff now! She can go shopping for us, cook all our meals, and even do all our quests and give us the rewards! Robot Megumin is so much more helpful than the girl who collapsed every time she made a big bang!"
"And she's so powerful, too," said Darkness, wiping some blood from her chin with a dreamy look in her eyes. "Metal fists like that could really do someone some major damage you know?"
"Yeah, but I didn't get what I wanted," said Kazuma, with a sigh. "I was supposed to have a pretty girl hand me a nice, warm pair of panties, but got a robot that wants to destroy me instead. At least I can just tell her not to do it, I guess..."
"Ugh, still thinking about panties?" said Aqua. "Anyway, she'll get over hating you for doing this to her. Once she's adjusted I'm sure she'll love her new body, knowing that she's making everyone else's lives so much easier!"
The girl-turned-robot wished that she could tell them otherwise. That she didn't care how useful a tool her new body was for everyone else. She didn't want to be a tool! She hated having a body that was so large and unwieldy, a body incapable of wielding explosion magic or enjoying basic human comforts, a body that meant she was already being treated as a volitionless item rather than the person she had so recently been. They weren't her friends anymore, they were her owners and that was never going to change. All she could do was stomp unwittingly through the forest on her forced errand, a prisoner, held captive in her own, automatically-moving new form, a future of helplessly watching herself perform an endless stream of menial tasks stretching out before her, her only hope being that her friends-turned-masters would deign to let her speak and move for herself, even if it was just occassionally...
