Description This was made for the open round of the Newgrounds Annual Tournament of Animation. The theme was "discovery of time travel."

This is the first time I've participated in anything like this, so I ended up working like crazy in case I didn't finish in time. It turns out, after spending pretty much all my free time working and temporarily forgetting about having a social life, I got it done right on time. See, I'm actually leaving to go to Waterloo for the Skills Ontario 2D animation competition soon, where I will only have access to a computer while I'm working on my animation for that competition, so I wouldn't be able to work on my NATA entry. My entry is done now, though, so I no longer need to worry about that.

As for the theme, I didn't want to do a typical time travel story, so I interpreted the theme a little differently. I recalled that scene from Back to the Future 2 where Doc draws a graph showing multiple timelines for Marty. I took this idea where, rather than moving along the forwards/backwards axis (x), I would move along the timelines axis (y), or in the case of this video, squish them all together into one timeline using a package that was supposed to be delivered to the mad scientist next door. It's a stretch in terms of adherence to the theme, but I think it still works.

Anyway, it looks like NATA's going to be a blast this year. I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone's entries!

wow
dude you are TALENTED.
That was fantastic. I can only imagine the work that went into that.
Also you draw hands better than anyone I know.
Great work!

Thanks!

Well I only draw them well when they aren't moving a lot. IF you pause the movie on just about any frame that isn't a close-up of hand then you'll find that they're just weird blob things and the amount of fingers occasionally changes from frame to frame

GREAT! Many tricks I love seeing around, like the perspective throws, simple but well executed. Graphically very interesting; as people said, the colorscheme for different "sides" really adds to the narrative.
Really made me smile, kinda reminds me Dexter's Laboratory, both for the malfunctioning apparatus and the brother-sister struggle. And the ending is also surprisingly simple, all fit very well together in the end.

Post-credits cut with mad scientist got a crack off of me. xD

Good luck on Waterloo, you sure got a lot to show!

AAAhh! Dave, this rocks! Brilliant job -- the ending made me grin. I really love the choices you made with color in this, as I mentioned before on the teaser you uploaded! Beautiful animation. c: Good luck!

nice, i love the angle in which you interpreted the prompt- very creative! I also like how you had a neutral color, then another color for each "team", instead of making the people have skin color, hair color, etc. it made it a lot more fun!

however i dont quite get the end when the red guy looks in his mailbox- would you mind explaining it to me? (i might have missed a little bit of that part because i was typing the first part of this comment XD)

He's a scientist. No Splice/Merge device dropped by his mailbox. Where did it go? 8D
