Oooh this is gorgeous! And I totally understand about the shading. I'm currently debating whether to try shading the piece I'm currently working on. I already have so many gradients and stuff going on with the design, sometimes the shading just ends up looking messy. But it's worth more AP, so... Bah.. xD

Carnivaleart had a journal with 10 custom slots open for 50 usd/5k points to help recover the funds from artist commissions on stuff for the group and species. They had been really kind enough to put a hold on the last spot on it while I came up with the 5k points (it was hard lol, still got to finish up some last bits of art for people on that and I hope to have them done tomorrow or sunday)
It took me a long while to decide on what markings and stuff I wanted for Jolnir, and I'm very much happy with the design for her
(I have a boy I won from the FAQ event, still working on his design though)
Getting the slot option definitely isn't a bad idea if you have the points. Stryx are pretty awesome.

I'm leaning that way as well but I'm still pretty undecided on what sort of design I would go for hnnn
I only want one so its a hard choice haha I only get up to 5 common markings and only sand or soil base (which is okay cause I do like those colours anyway) Its just choosing what markings and colours would look good together

This is my boy, he was just approved and uploaded about an hour ago 
He was a pre-rolled geno from two of the official group starters. Jolnir I got to pick what base and 4 common markings + 1 uncommon. She's technically not a starter, she just has a clear lineage lol.
I'd say read up on each marking/color, and look through all the groups Stryx to see what each thing looks like. You could also make a stryx scribble and play with different color/marking combos on that to see what you'd like (that's what I did for Rolly).

thats what i have been doing the past few days haha I went though all the genos of the hatchlings being raffled and all the ones being sold and tried to design then so I would have an idea of what they'd look like haha.
I think I have a design I like though but I want to try drawing them a few times just to check
