Description "Got it," she said.

commission for ~myprettycabinet , who gave me a selection of scenes from the HP books to choose from. The one we decided on was from the first book, the potions obstacle on the way to the Mirror of Erised that was cut from the movies.

It actually started a pretty interesting conversation about the importance of this scene to Hermione's character, as it really shows her coming into her own.

This is very lovely. I think what I like the most are the flames on either side, the way they were portrayed in the book, and her expression. The bottles are also pretty cool.
Nice job!

Thanks! I loved this scene in the book, and it was fun to illustrate something where the movies didn't already dictate what it would look like. I'm glad you like it!

Thanks so much! I'm working hard on improving my composition, so I'm glad you like it. And of course, I just can't help myself with the colours.

What are the blue dots in the background?

Too bad Hermione lost all that logic by the time she reached Book Seven.

Ah, I'm sorry if I didn't make it clear enough - those are supposed to be tiles inlaid in the wall.

Whatever your opinions of her later are, she was one tough cookie in the first book.

That she was.

I think Hermione was made stupid and wimpy in the last two books so she wouldn't out-shine Harry and so she would be an appropriate mate for Ron.
