Borruen [2010-06-29 03:19:43 +0000 UTC]

first of all, great work really like your style congrats on the DD I know how cool that is hehe

As a brazilian, I must say something to every complaining brazilian here. You're complaining that this is how the world sees us? ever wondered why they see us this way? Well, I tell you, they see us this way because that's what we show them. Our main propaganda for decades: Beaches, Women, Carnaval and Caipirinha, that's what our films, our songs and our fucking government made us look like just because it's damn profitable. Yea we're much more than these things but how the fuck were they supposed to think about anything else when portraying us?
Of course I'm generalizing but we know that this is true.

don't go telling me that "oh they do like bossa nova too, it's not all about women and stuff" sure they do, but is bossa nova the first thing that comes to mind when they think about brazil? NO It's NOT.

I hate discussions on DA but this time I couldn't hold it x)

once again, amazing work

PascalCampion In reply to Borruen [2010-07-01 15:27:12 +0000 UTC]

Thank you Borruen.
I really appreciate you saying that.
As I've said earlier.. I'm from France, and I live in the states.
almost everyday I encounter people assuming that I should be "more French".
It doesn't actually bother me one bit..I find it very amusing, and I love to share my experiences growing up in France at that time.
But the stereotyping does not bother me.

Borruen In reply to PascalCampion [2010-07-01 15:37:58 +0000 UTC]

haha yea I'm not bothered by stereotypes, if it wasn't for the brazilians complaining, I would have never said something like that. People just need to let it go. It just pisses me off when they start blaming foreigners for something that we have been building and maintaining for ages, as if you were responsible for this. it's just not your fault x)

great work once again

I can think of far worse stereotypes to have cast on you than naked woman, carnival and soccer. Nice work

i see complaints about your view of brazil, but it's quite flattering that you wanted to depict something from here having to do with carnival is, indeed, typical. but at least you didn't draw monkeys in it. xD haha.
great job, and despite of the other brazilian's comments, i really enjoyed this. and the style reminded me a lot of the style on some bits of The Princess and the Frog - very beautiful!

Hi Ferdicamacho. Ha.. you're not the only person who compares my work to the Princess and the Frog. I still haven't seen that movie, but really want to.
Hmmm..
Thank you though

Ereshkigal In reply to ??? [2010-06-28 22:35:41 +0000 UTC]

Ah, the lighting and the picture are both great, the mood is really light and fun, but as a brazilian I do feel sad that whenever we are portraited in involves naked women and carnival and/or soccer. They're good stuff, don't get me wrong, it's just... yeah

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PascalCampion In reply to Ereshkigal [2010-07-01 15:22:06 +0000 UTC]

I know what you mean. I'm French, and everybody wonders why I don't wear a mustache, carry a loaf of bread under my arm, live in Paris, and have an assortment of blue striped wife beaters.
That said... There was a point in time when some if not all of these stereotypes were easily found in France.

I understand what you are saying

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ereshkigal In reply to PascalCampion [2010-07-01 15:55:22 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha, well, yes but when it comes to the image Brazil has abroad the whole woman thing gets very complicated. It's not merely about a wrong stereotype. I was in Europe last year - and I'm blonde with light coloured eyes - so people generally either didn't believe that I was brazilian or, when they did, I got some very nasty comments I don't care to repeat not now not ever. It's like people think brazilian woman = whore. So after a while I just stopped answering where I was from. And that just made me really sad.

On a lighter note we do love soccer as much as people seem to think we do. With the world cup going on now and all, even big companies stop working to watch the games. It's so much fun /o/
