Very haunting..O.O Those deep colours, the soft lighting and the face...this image is literally stuck in my head.

Yes, it is a painting, oil on canvas, although there is a little charcoal, if I recall.

The dark colours make it feel so gloomy and sad. Yet it's strangely beautiful. At first I thought she looked resigned, as though all the fight had been sucked out of her, but if you look more closely at her face there's something there, a set of the jaw or lip perhaps, that suggests there's still light and hope there somewhere.

Do you know, I have recently changed the arms of the woman. She now holds a child. The painting still retains the title "Straight Jacket".

I don't know if that's entirely fair... it doesn't HAVE to be a straitjacket. You just kick the father into taking care of it when you want to do other things, and if he's not there, well, that's what grandparents are for
More seriously, in our bit of the world at least, having a baby is self-inflicted 99.9% of the time. Obviously there are circumstances where I would have sympathy, but for most people it's simple: if you're not prepared for the responsibility, at least emotionally, DON'T HAVE A KID.

No, you are right! Hey I have a kid. And I love him with all my heart. The painting is just fiction, like a tragic novel from the nineteenth century. I don't mean to make a blanket statement here. Its one story.
Cheers,

Thanks for your comment. Lots of straight jackets in this world, isn't there? Your stuff is really good, keep on painting and drawing. Are you going to art school?
