Description I tried my hand at making my own version of 's wallpaper Nonconformist

Nothing is different in this version from v.01 except that the balls in this one are black instead of blue.

Created and rendered in Cinema 4D.

Render Time: Around 5 hours @ 4000x3200

Enjoy

In the download: Two 24bit bitmap versions of this at 1600x1200 and 1280x1024 . . .

12-30-05 -- EDIT: I have update this image to a much higher quality version of this render which is the one that I am offering for printing here. It is awaiting being approved for print.

very nice and shinie ^^, i really like how you can tell its a metal with the hdr image, most of the time i neglect that and end up with ugly looking reflections

Thanks, I am glad you like this

Since this seems to be one of my most popular pieces that I have made, I finally put this up as a Print so that if anyone wants they can buy this.

i am very impressed with this picture...it is quite an interesting image to look at. i must have explored it with my eye for a good five minutes...just going over every repetitive pattern in each sphere...very cool.

Rolling down the same path, just in a slightly unique way. It's all ya can really do.

Yea I guess, but I may try a few other things before I decide to just let this idea go.

Why not make it egg-shaped, or smaller, or off the rails or something? It's always color :/

PC-JUNKY In reply to Nimphious [2005-10-14 04:43:50 +0000 UTC]

Cause I just felt like not making it that crazy, but eventually I may do something like that, but I am not really sure yet.

I really need more processor power for doing these type of renders, because rendering like this requires the renderer to make 2 full passes [pre-pass and final-pass] which takes a bit longer if I really turn up the quality settings.

not bad, but you can see the grain where you used FG to light it. it could do with higher settings rally also, try and find a different HDR map

Alright I found a whole crapload of new HDR maps so I will be changing the HDR map in this and will be uping all the render settings in Radiosity which is what I used to like the image.

I'm not sure which one I like more. I love the reflections in the balls, and the curved track. I wish Bryce could do that. I don't have the free time to learn another program Keep the renders coming!

PC-JUNKY In reply to LordFlasheart [2005-09-27 02:11:32 +0000 UTC]

The reflection in the balls is done by using a hdri image as the lighting and then setting the ball to reflect the hdri image properly.

As for the curved track I made some spiral tubes and the set the camera view to view from the front so that it mades some nice curved line patterns which I render to alpha b&w image and then opened that with adobe Illustrator and traced those curves with it and then exported them as a native illustrator file and then droped them into Cinema 4D to create my spline for which I sweep NURBS and a circle spline to create the curved track.
