Description For my art trade with of her awesome character Mae Torrent as a squirrel. I just adore the outfit Mae (Pronounced "my", not "may") is wearing. I could never think of something like that.

Her hair scanned a bit of a darker red than I actually drew it, and the blue scanned a bit more vivid, but the scanner was otherwise very kind to this. I had a blast with that outfit! I think I made her staff too long, though... And I should've used a darker brown for the shadows of her fur.

This doubles as one of my creatures for my 10 Anthro Challenge.

Sakura Pigma Micron, Prismacolor marker.

Oh, this is soooo pretty You can definitely congratulate your friend on a lovely (and yet not overwhelmingly complicated) design. Beautiful colors and design Love the little leaves whirling around her staff in particular!

Great job on your challenges, can't wait to see what happens next

I LOVE love love the colour scheme! The bright bits of blue in amongst all that yellow. Gorgeous. Strangely enough the pic I'm doing at the moment has mainly blue with some bits of yellow/ orange. The outfit and Mae's cute expression rock, and well the whole thing. But I love the atmosphere you've created. It looks slightly misty and fuzzy. I really, really, really love the background. It's beautiful. I'm sorry I don't have anything much to say that isn't background-gushing.

I'm mighty happy to hear your "background-gushing", actually! I thought this was actually one of my more crappy backdrops, to be honest...

I'm addicted to yellow. <3 I shamelessly admit it! Can't wait to see your piece.

No- it's an awesome background. I was going to say I thought it was one of your most atmospheric... well, I suppose it was just said.

I like your darker brown colors and it match to the blown leaves. the leaves make the loneliness of the winter forest.

by the way the pronunciation of the english name is various. the japanese will pronounce it "Ma e" not "Ma i" or "Me i".

Awesome! You're already done with twenty percent of the challenge and I've only started coloring my first.

I really like how you gave her squirrelly hands instead of the paws that you normally do on your felines. The grass is also amazing. WOW!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Peachfuzz In reply to PhoenixAshesRats [2007-03-06 02:04:38 +0000 UTC]

Yay! Thank you! I tried really hard on her hands and feet, because the paws are one of the things that really set animals apart from one another, more so than the coat. Along with the muzzle and ears. Wouldn't be much like learning to draw new critters if they were shaped just like my cats but with different tails!

That is beautiful! Very nice job drawing Mae! The color is nice and fluid, and not at all punishing. It's easy on the eyes and very well-blended. And I don't think that her staff being too long is a problem at all. Long staffs are the way to go!

Peachfuzz In reply to Marriland [2007-03-04 23:10:46 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, Marriland. This one bled devilishly and I really had to fight to get it too look nice.

Marriland In reply to Peachfuzz [2007-03-05 01:40:22 +0000 UTC]

I can't even see the slightest of bleed marks, so I'd say you were victorious in the fight for sure! Not a scratch on 'ya!

Thanks so much. I tried something new with the grass this time, adding a darker color to the shadows. It made it look more cushy and rich.

Wow! This one is really wonderful! I really love how you drew the staff, it looks so symetric, and round! Did you use templates for that, or did you drew it by hand? And as usually you have chosen a wonderful colour range! And, I really love the grass! it looks so... FLUFFY! XD And you really improved in natomy! I have nothing to criticise! Wonderful!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Peachfuzz In reply to Tabby-chan [2007-03-04 17:31:03 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, Tabby! I sketched the long part of the staff out using a ruler, but inked it freehand. I find that things look a lot more natural that way. The circles are entirely freehand.

OOH, Its just so AMAZING! Thank you SO much, its awesome to see Mae as a squirrel! And you did SO well with it! I really love the coloration of the fur, and all the little details and everything you did is awesome! I really like the depth you put in the grass, and the swirl of oak leaves is just perfect, I'd say! Nice job on the clothes as well, you really are improving on them...the little coat tail dealios look wonderfully curly, and the sleeves are also really well done! I also liked how you could put a character that is mainly yellow with a yellow background, and still not make the character get lost in the background, so good job on that as well! I really do appreciate it, its really awesome! I'm currently coloring your part of the trade, I'm about to start on the background, having finished the character! So that should be done within the next week I'm sure, maybe even sooner!

WarpedOrbit [2007-03-04 03:27:56 +0000 UTC]

Came out really nice I do like the outfit...one question: just out of curiosity, how do the pants work to allow for the tail?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Peachfuzz In reply to WarpedOrbit [2007-03-04 03:35:15 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, my friend.

Good question! I honestly have no idea how you'd stuff a tail that plumy into pants. For critters with thinner tails, I simply imagine a hole under the hem in the back there would do. But for something this plumy, I bet the pants have a split in the back so they pull on like normal, and then latch/button at the top once pulled on around the tail. Like jeans, only with the split and button on the back, minus the zipper since that'd be where the tail goes through.

WarpedOrbit In reply to Peachfuzz [2007-03-04 03:40:53 +0000 UTC]

You should try drawing such a character from the back, it would be interesting.

Nice work! I could immediately tell she is a squirrel. Nice work on her little squirrely paws. Also, you're getting better at showing the weight of the figure. I really believe that she's standing on the ground and that her right foot is holding most of her weight. ^^ Those little oak[?] leaves are really sweet.

Peachfuzz In reply to CatalystSwitch [2007-03-03 23:52:26 +0000 UTC]

Thanks so much! I've been trying really hard to "connect" my characters with their surroundings. I've been struggling with this for years, so that's really encouraging to hear!

Hahaha, and I just had to lop off the ends of her boots to show her squirrely toes.
