Description
Finally got around to overhauling my old, crappy character Mara for Serpents of Old. I gave her a less elaborate hairstyle that fits better with the SoO universe, and completely changed the her clothes. She's still got kind of a high-class style, but it looks less overdone now. Personality has also been overhauled with goals and less generic demeanor.

History:
Chatty, but obedient and dutiful since childhood, Mara excelled at the Council's classes, eventually becoming the wife of a minor council member, to her own and her farmer parents' delight. Unfortunately, they were the only ones happy about it. Her husband was disgusted with her low birth and treated her with cold distance. Nevertheless, Mara enjoyed her taste of the high life, and treated her husband like a king.

Eventually, however, she became pregnant with Tael, and things went downhill in a hurry. Her husband, who had been hoping to get rid of Mara in order to be with an old sweetheart, was furious, since the child who would now permanently tie him to his wife. Raging, he kicked his wife out of the house, to her horror and complete surprise, as she had been completely oblivious to this side of him.

Completely distraught, Mara went to her friends for help, only to find she had none who would help her. Her pride at her opportune marriage had made her no friends. By chance, she met Gwyn shortly after Hizruk had been taken, and the two women eventually became friends over their separate misfortunes. Gwyn became almost like a second mother to Tael, especially since Mara was clueless about raising a child.

Currently, Mara holds a job as a maid, allowing her to own a small house for her son. She's unable to see Gwyn as often as she'd like, but the two are still friends.

Personality:
Mara's obedient side has almost completely disappeared. She's tired of having people make decisions for her, but her new-found independence is often problematic, since she doesn't understand when to rely on others' judgement.

Knowing full well that she's an embarrassment to her former Council member husband, Mara makes a point of associating with anyone and everyone who the Council disapproves of. She figures if she can't have her old life back, her former husband might as well feel the repercussions for his actions to the best of her ability.

Generally laid back and friendly, there is however one line you should not cross with her. Any threat to Tael will put her in full-on Mother Bear mode.
